Make in universe only: Mondegreen

And we make those examples stay on the memepages for a reason. We don't allow memes out into other normal tropes. A Memetic Badass doesn't get listed on the normal Badass page. Memes are not a real piece of the work.

We don't have a Memetic Mondegreen page though. I think we should probably make one though.

If you want to chop the memes off the page before I take a chainsaw to them, go ahead. They don't really belong on a page with In-Universe examples.

Ok, I've given people a chance to keep the meme's on a different page. This has been a mess long enough. I'm cutting things.

If you're gonna do this, shouldn't the Meme-Mondegreen trope be launched first?

I gave them months to do it. I even paused some. They can still get the stuff out of the history. I have no idea which of these are memes or not.

I cleaned up the page as well as I could, but I don't know everything so I tended to guess a bit more generously. If someone else wants to do another pass go ahead. I didn't move anything to Troper Tales. I just hacked at it.

I'd say some memetic Mondegreens are probably more well-known than most in-universe mondegreens. (The ones used in YTP come to mind.)

And they really shouldn't be on the same page. If you want to make yet another stupid meme page, make a separate page. We aren't Know Your Meme though. We don't classify memes. We classify tropes as used in media.

Well, the Jimi Hendrix one was the title of the first book collection of Mondegreens, so it's moved past meme status and onto an acknowledged one. While it'd take me time to dig up the precise clip, the Creedence Clearwater Revival example was noted in a skit on Saturday Night Live (or maybe it was SCTV, though I'm fairly certain it was SNL), so that's also past meme status.

If you can find evidence of them being used in any media you can list them on the page as long as you cite where they're from. The point of the clean up is mostly to stop people from adding their own things they heard and keep it from basically being a Troper Tales page.

For the record, "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy" is listed on the page with four different in media references.

Really shouldnt of Axed them like that yet shima till we decided what to do with them. I mean really thats a trope and thats what this trope was written for.

Really against removing things like this now that we dont have a place to put them... going to have to just soft split the things.

Raso, the thread was was

• started on February 15th and died on February 17th;
• shima brought it back on the 1st of March then it died again
• revived again on the 17th of March and died the same day;
• revived again on the 21st of June, lasted 2 days til the 23rd of June, when she said, "if you want to move the memes to another page do it now."
• she necroed it again on the 17th of July when it stayed alive til the 22nd of July,
• then Troacctid necroed it again today and she went ahead and did what had been agreed on back in the middle of March and again in June.

She did not act too fast. If the meme examples had been moved two months ago, they wouldn't have still been there to cut. You wanted to move them to a page we didn't have; you were told to go ahead and make the page and move the examples two months ago, and you didn't bother.

Because it was fine to toss the out of universe examples into TT... with that gone no, Hence my suggestion of an Audience Reaction namespace for said out of universe examples [1].

If the work had been done when it was first agreed to, by the people whop wanted to save them, they'd all be safely in the TT zip file on their way to the new location. The work wasn't done. That doesn't negate the decision. There was plenty of time and plenty of reminders that it hadn't been done yet.

I gave people months to move what they wanted to save. If people were really passionate about saving them, they would have. They can still probably raid the page history. There's only so long that we can sit around and wait for people though.

Plus, there's entire websites full of mondegreens out there for anyone who really wants to pour over lists of them.
