Is there any actor that can play John Galt
Humour, where would we be without it? In Germany, probablyDonald Trump?
he's too large and we know from Atlas Shrugged that the larger you are the more evil you are

Humour, where would we be without it? In Germany, probablyWait am I in the Bizarro Universe?
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...^^ Is this supposed to be a reference to the immensity of Trump's wealth or are you just calling him fat?
The first sounds odd, in light of Rand's philosophy. The second, however, sounds pretty funny.
yeah I was just calling him fat, which seems to be a trait of most of the evil people in Atlas Shrugged, compared to the Beautiful People who are generally good

Humour, where would we be without it? In Germany, probably^ You can say the same of Dostoevsky, though.
I'm a skeptical squirreltrue enough but at least he was a good writers and didn't use repetitive vocab to describe characters, Ayn rand didn't invent Beauty Equals Goodness but she did abuse it

Humour, where would we be without it? In Germany, probablyI consider Rand's prejudices to more or less justified since they at least relate to the story — unlike say, Michael Crichton who took potshots at critics by depicting them child molesters.

I'm a skeptical squirrelOther writers who agree with Rand have taken up that slack, however.

^ And I always thought the Libertarian National Socialist Green Party made for an eclectic mixture. A furry objectivist comic creator... huh. Now I've seen everything.

Even if Ayn Rand were elevated to a bizarro Lenin godhood in this country, I could take solace that this guy is her acolyte. I think that's punishment enough.
I'm a skeptical squirrel^ He's that highly viewed by his objectivist peers? Get out!
Isn't it nicely ironic of a punishment just to seriously compare her to Lenin?
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...^ Well, She Who Fights Monsters...
I'm a skeptical squirrelNot so fast. As much of a- let's say a chimaera- as Jay Naylor is (pff! that name), I think Alan Greenspan's got him beat maybe not in terms of being unbearable, but definitely in terms of being an actively destructive disciple of Ayn Rand. Being the head of the Fed lets you go a lot further.

yeyI thought we were talking about terrible authors who used self-indulgent strawman for no purpose other than to bolster their own egos?
That was more intended for the comment that johnnyfog made about an acolyte of Rand's being a punishment to her entire cult.
My mistake. Though I haven't actually read any of Naylor's work, nor do I plan to for that matter. Especially if they are as bad as implied. So, does he closely mimic Rand in terms of despicable characters and terrible writing?
yeyWell, at one point he makes his stupid strawman more endearing than one of his protagonists, while making the phenomenally stupid "it's cold in winter, therefore global warming doesn't exits" argument.
The film is opening at 300 theatres in 80 markets. I imagine they will empty theatres against Rio, Scream 4 and The Conspirator (Robert Redford's film on the Abraham Lincoln assassination).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Is there anybody posting in or reading this thread that's actually planning on seeing this in theaters next weekend?*
I'm certainly not seeing this thing! I'm definitely watching Scream 4!

300 theatres? Huh. That's a lot more than the initial 84.
I myself have next to no interest in seeing the film. This month is a bit busy for me, and it'd feel miserable to have gone to the theatre to see this and not The Kings Speech.

^It had 84 theaters confirmed a few days ago. But remember that this movie is being advertised almost entirely to the Tea Party. The producers have been rubbing shoulders with a few guys with connections to a few far right-wing lobbyist and fundraising or groups with millions of mailing list subscribers to get news of this movie around by word of mouth and demand that the movie come to their own town (This is mostly because the production is too fucking cheap to advertise on TV, and their distributor is too fucking small to reach out to as many markets as larger studios).
And those tea partiers have been doing just that because if there's anything they are good at, it's spreading word to each other through electronic media and demanding stupid shit. They're like Anonymous if Anonymous were comprised of devoutly libertarian shitheads, instead of completely apathetic and heartless shitheads.

ohhhhh, I get it.
