Or they all leave during the summer break. The Unova protagonists are probably out of school already. (Which also neatly explains why Unova is the only region where the season changes.

I wouldn't worry about it, Luke. Now she knows how you feel. Who knows? Maybe one day, she'll change her mind.

It doesn't ever have to happen, of course, but I think a human/Pokemon relationship would be interesting.
