Even if it's just in a conceptual stage, I'm happy to hear that Ono is pushing for a revival of the series.

Reviving this thread because I'd prefer to not make a new one for no good reason.

Any fans of the series on the fora? I really wish I could play Dawn of Dreams again. I never did finish it. Anyways, I was thinking of emailing Capcom about a possible HD collection, though I don't know whether I should bother.

I have all four games (in the main series), though I've only ever finished the first. Due to laziness, I've never bothered to finish two and three, and the fourth is broken for me. A shame, since I really, really like that one.

[up] Same boat, although I also have Onimusha Blade Warriors and Onimusha Tactics. I do love the series, really.

The two things that stand out in my mind of the series are the puzzles that confused the crap out of me and the dark realm. Good times.

I played and finished Dawn Of Dreams and 3. I loved both to death.

3 was actually the first PS 2 game I played.

I like the franchise. Sure, it's not the best action game series in the world (I seriously think they should of just ditched the Tank Controls by the second or third game), but oh well.

I've only played Dawn of Dreams, but I really enjoyed it. I hope they do more with the series.

I loved Onimusha. It's such a unique game, and I really love the options of either slashing enemies to death or being a badass and one-hit-killing your enemies. 3 was my absolute favorite.

[up][up][up] The series didn't really start as an action game though. Warlords is straight up horror. The whole game has a pretty dark and creepy vibe to it I thought.

It's also the only game in the series I've played and beaten.

Warlords also had some godly music.

One of my favorite final boss themes ever.

Warlords was an attempt at horror. The original plan was basically "Resident Evil in feudal Japan" like Dino Crisis was "Resident Evil with dinosaurs" but some bloodstains and some "Place the family crest on the door" puzzles do not a horror game make. Onimusha's always been an action series, even if it didn't realize it.

You know, I think the reason Warlords is the game everyone beat was because it was so damn short.

It's true that Onimusha isn't scary but neither was Resident Evil. Scary =/= horror. RE was never scary either but it's by far the most well known example of Survival Horror.

Warlords does not play or feel remotely like an action game. The controls and fixed camera angles are pat of what made RE "horror" and on top of all that it has quite a foreboding atmosphere and soundtrack. You are not storming through castles and mowing down demons like you would be doing in RE 5 or something.

If you play Warlords and then play 3 there is a world of difference. (I've seen cutscenes and have been told as much by people who have played both games)

The only point in the original Onimusha that gave me creeps was whenever Guildenstern was on screen, eugh.

Guildenstern is the man.

The voice-acting got "better" in the subsequent games but it lost the charm.

If you haven't read it, you should read The Dark id's LP of Onimusha: Warlords. (and most of the RE games) http://lparchive.org/Onimusha-Warlords/

I don't mind him ripping into the game because part of its appeal is the sillyness.

I'd recommend the Dark Id's Dirge of Cerberus LP too. That's comedy gold. Blue the Blue and Red the Red are personal injokes for me.

I've played the four Onimusha games on PS 2. I loved the first 3, but I didn't like the fourth at all. I didn't get very far into it.

The fourth is the best. Soki is even someone I like despite being so LOLSHONEN. Granted, I'm still stuck at the Oni trials because of apathy over the Love Interest.

Also Dark ID = Undiluted awesome. He did Drakengard too. S'great.

I'll never forget... GOGANDANTESS, THE GREATEST SWORDSMAN OF ALL THE DEMONS!

I seriously loved that guy.

I've only ever completed 2 and played part of 3.

My favorite was the one with Jean Reno, the game had like the most amazing intro I'd ever seen with that samurai raiding the living demon fortress, the series kind of faded into obscurity for me after that.
