DO A BARREL ROLL!!!!111!!!
Sorry. Had to be done. Star Fox 64 was at least 25% of my childhood. Loved that game with a passion and always wished Falco was the main character.
USELESS FUN FACT: Oddly enough I saw Andross's true form for the first time when I was at college this past semester and the guys dusted of thier N64. I was too young and crappy to make it thier myself. It was nice closure finally seeing the true ending.
Heh..I was sadly unable to WIN the easy mode path and got game over'd at venom. That be some Bullet Hell shit right there. "THEY'RE EVERYWHERE" indeed, Peppy.
And yeah, Falco's awesome. I've noticed that he's the best at avoiding damage when he is being chased, and in all range mode he gets chased the least. Hell, once I think I saw him actually outsmart his pursuers and kill them!

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13239183440B34964700 Alfric's Fire Emblem Liveblog Encyclopedia!I was always too afraid to fly too close to the brain on serious runs. Didn't want to lose my hyper lasers.
Also: Expert Bolse Venom FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Expert Bolse-side Venom was frigging unbelievable. The only time I actually won was when I came in from Zoness with a full stock of bombs, used every damn one, and had a sliver of life left on the golem boss.
Expert Area 6 is quite possibly one of the most fun things to ever be in a video game.
From the way the commander said "Dang... Deploy it now!" You'd think they crossed the Godzilla Threshold?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.The last one you'll probably ever manage to finish is Sector Z. You have to plan out your actions when shooting down the missiles or enemy fighters so that way your wingmates won't kill-steal them from you. The reason why is because while the point total is very low, so is the amount of enemies, and you need all the missile kills to get the high score.
And HELL YES, Area 6 on expert is the s**t! Challenge on that one is not getting the high score, but actually surviving or getting 350+!
So any word on a new game? Or did they finish the series with that DS game I never played?
Last I heard, they were trying to find a developer who would be able to do the series justice. =d
360 Gamertag: Electivirus. 3DS friend code: 5412-9983-8497. PSN ID: Electivirus. PM me if you add me on any.Lets hope they find that developer eventually. I didn't really mind the land segments and stuff in Assault, but I always found the flying parts more enjoyable, and I loved the amount of variance you got in 64.
On my run where I got owned on venom, I lost 5 lives to Sector X because I was going to use the warp to get the kills needed for the medal, and to get better at using it for when I want to try to get the Sector Z medal.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13239183440B34964700 Alfric's Fire Emblem Liveblog Encyclopedia!I wonder what made the 64 flights better than the other flights. As long as we get both styles of gameplay and the whole playable cast of Assault, and good story/gameplay/graphics, I'm good.
Now posting as Enzeru, this serves as an emergency avatar backup accountWhen I was young my friend played it all the time. I didn't have a N64 myself so I couldn't. Finally got it when it was released on the Virtual Console. I also played the Star Fox games for systems I did own.
Did anyone else actually LIKE Star Fox: Assault? I actually found it to be highly enoyable. The (generic) story was interesting to my thirteen year old mind and I even liked the onfoot missions. And multiplayer wasn't too bad either. Might just be rose colored glasses poisoning my mind as I haven't played it in over five years, but...*shrugs*
Heh..I enjoyed it. Granted, I only have that and Adventures, but I enjoyed them both for different reasons. Assault because it was quite fun to shoot things up on land, air, and in a tank, and Adventures because I was a little kid at the time, it was my first introduction to Star Fox, and it played similarly to Zelda, which I had enjoyed also. I hadn't learned what a "rip-off" game is yet, so I enjoyed both Zelda and Adventures for the same reasons.
Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.I like Adventures and Assault.
One of the few times I can say I like a rip-off more than what it's ripping off
I loved it! The gritty story, the nice gameplay controls (for the Arwing and Wolfen only), the playability of Fox, Falco, Krystal, Slippy, PEPPY AND WOLF, great locales, fun multiplayer (I remember my sibs and I role-playing, I was Gay Peppy). I'm hoping the next Star Fox game plays out like that, but with more playable characters, more Arwing levels, and better on-the-ground controls.
Now posting as Enzeru, this serves as an emergency avatar backup accountMostly simpler and faster action (Assault seemed almost ponderous at times) and Fountain of Memes voice acting that wasn't afraid to be stupidly hammy.
If they make another one, the writing and VA basically have to be either shamelessly campy or actually really good. I feel like the setting and cast can support either, but little in between.
I personally liked Assault quite a bit, though less then 64, because it lacked the variety that I really enjoyed. Adventures was one of the more successful Zelda-based games, like Okami. The gameplay was smooth enough that it never get annoying and the fighting and puzzles were enjoyable.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13239183440B34964700 Alfric's Fire Emblem Liveblog Encyclopedia!Assault really needed more than just one all-range only mission. I liked the game when you weren't on-foot, but it was too much of that, too litle of everything else.

I like how Assault actually gave Star Wolf some semblance of characterization. They went from greedy amoral mercs to Noble Demon Worthy Enemies with an awesome theme song
Heh..My cousins had the annoying habit of singing Danger Zone during the Star Wolf fights.
Now that I think about it, there should be a Kenny Loggins' Challenge, similar to the Haddaway Challenge.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Bump.
Falco's SNES Simlish is sexy.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I just wonder if the series will continue. They are already said that any sequels would pick up in the middle of Command (don't blame 'em with Command's multiple endings), but we haven't heard anything about a sequel in years.

"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadOh, hey Starfox.
PRESS Z OR R TWICE TO DO A BARREL ROLL!
On a more serious note, I hope Nintendo brings this series back.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireThere's a 3DS remake of Star Fox 64 coming out...shows the series isn't dead at any rate. I thought for sure the series was finished after Command, mostly because I HATED the thing. Why in the name of Venom would they try to make a turn-based strategy game out of StarFox? Oh, and the controls! Let's use every single button, control pad included, for firing lasers, and the touch screen for movement. Brilliant! Oh, and the PLOT. Assault was just better.
So, since I didn't see a thread for the Star Fox series, I decided to make one.
So I finally medalled all the normal mode stages in Star Fox 64. Then I tried Expert mode and tried to go down the hard path from the start. I got owned so I tried the easy path and got 4 medals with some trouble (the medals were on Corneria, Meteo, Sector X and Bolse) and have only 1 thing to say about expert mode itself.
F***ING PIECE OF CRAP WINGS!!! They break so easily! Honestly, half of the difficulty in expert mode comes from the fact that your wings are so pathetic and you always fly lop-sided and can only rely on the weak single lasers! AAARGH! /Rant
