If they're sane enough to make a contract, they're sane enough to kill themselves. And if you ask "but how can someone who wants to commit suicide be sane?" I'll tell you to shut up.
Fight smart, not fair.I don't think you have to be particularly sane to make a contract.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeI'd assume most failed suicides fail precisely because they're a cry for help and not a genuine testimonial to the person not wanting to live.
And better than thy stroke; why swellest thou then? What exactly is "sane", anyways?
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODHow about NOT wanting to fucking kill yourself and we will work from there .
hashtagsarestupidYou DO have to be sane to enter into a contract. Otherwise, there's no "consideration" and crap like that. But lots of people who commit suicide could easily be considered to be undergoing what is known as temporary insanity.
Now, those who are PERSISTENTLY suicidal may often be lost causes-and as a Right to Die advocate, I can't say I support imposing upon their right to do so.
Just like I don't support redefining rape to limit taxpayer-funded abortions.

Okay but should there be taxpayer funded assisted suicides?

hashtagsarestupidStand outside of a walmart and ask for money to buy some bleach. It's not that expensive.
Fight smart, not fair.@Deboss: Most suicidal people don't just want death, they want death with dignity. The greedily bastards.

hashtagsarestupidThen buy a damn container of sleeping pills instead of bleach.
Fight smart, not fair. But my doctor won't prescribe me anything!
Personally I would-THIS POST WAS THUMPED FOR BEING OFF TOPIC.
Prescription nothing, there are plenty of medications you can get over-the-counter for which an overdose would be lethal.
Like others said, though, suicide is often the result of temporary insanity and people can often be helped into no longer wanting to die.

hashtagsarestupidYo Dawg, I heard you like on-topic conversations, so we put derails in your rerails so you can get thumped while you thump.
Oh Tomu we lost sight of the OP long long long ago.

hashtagsarestupidI added that as my sig line because I figure this entire page will probably be thumped eventually.
So what were we arguing about again?
*skims the OP*
I think everything that could be said has be said.

hashtagsarestupidEr, might want to shift this to a "Right to Die" topic.
In fact, I'll do that now. Self-assisted suicide and the like aren't that related to redefining rape.
Hey, check it out, Bobby Franklin just came up with another instant classic.
Links to actual text of bill in article.
What's precedent ever done for us?Oh my. Now that is utterly insane.
If we disagree, that much, at least, we have in commonIt is, however, the logical conclusion of the "person from the moment of conception" position. That's what I've been saying all along. Someone should tell Franklin that it was a warning, not a suggestion.
Stuff what I do.Indeed. I've been mentioning it as a logical conclusion too.
Yay for getting domestic abusers more tools to control their victims.
If we disagree, that much, at least, we have in commonAnd they should also lower the age of consent to a girl's first menstruation, for the same reason.
Seriously, WTF are these people smoking? Are they, like, clinically insane?
And will this be applied without Double Standard if it makes it into law, e.g. if a man has sex with his wife, and his semen is of subpar quality, will he be sentenced to the death penalty for failing to conceive a child?

"That said, as I've mentioned before, apart from the helmet, he's not exactly bad looking, if a bit...blood-drenched." - juancarlosI think the fact that it clearly flies in the face of Roe v. Wade is enough to rule this one out: you might as well try to introduce a bill that re-introduces segregation for all the chance that will have.
Not too worried about this one, unless it manages to go to vote; then it would actually be further along than the redefined rape bill.
What about in the case of mental illness?
