Don't feed the plants!
I'm not sure whether this is any good or not, but from the financial/technological bits I've read about, it sounds like a really terrible decision on the part of whoever funded it.

Anyone have something to discuss about it? Do it in this thread.
I'm feeling strangely happy now, contented and serene. Oh don't you see, finally I'll be, somewhere that's green...
Reading the plot summary, I'm assuming massive amounts of suck.

Some highlights include Emily Osborn, and Spider-Man killing the Green Goblin by tying him to a falling piano.

On one of the forums I go to, there's a producer who's one of the regulars. He saw the previews and hated it.

..."GEEK chorus?" I was gonna say that this would be sucky for a year, but then become the best musical ever.

I redact my opinion.

And one of them is named 'Professor Cowbell.' Five injuries have already occured, and it's the most expensive Broadway production in history.

I don't know whether to laugh or get tickets.

Everything happens for a reason. The reason is a chaotic intersection of chance and the laws of physics.

Say how many months behind schedule is this play now?

It's super expensive, injured everyone and possibly killed the career of U2. This will be the Star Wars Holiday Special of Spider-Man.

Except it's actually making money. People are paying to see the previews.

Isn't that because it's already gained a So Bad, It's Good reputation? That's why I would pay. And seeing how overbudget it is they still might not even out.

Also professor Cowbell is actually Cobwell but It Gets Better. They have a song/scene about crafting fan-fiction and arguing about the origin of Spider-Man.

This sounds like Adaptation Decay incarnate. I heard they even changed Uncle Ben's death to a car accident, throughly missing the point of why Spidey became who is is today. If they screw up the ORIGIN STORY, known by every single person I know, then this is not gonna be good...
Just for reference, it got absolutely trashed by Ben Brantley. Like seemingly everything about this show, it's fun to read about. He stops just short of saying So Bad, It's Horrible, but it may not even be So Bad, It's Good until a show-breaking glitch happens.
The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.

So it's kind of like Nascar where spectators watch on the offchance of explosions only spectators watch on the offchnace of cast injuries?
Looks like this is our generation's Carrie.

The reviews are in! It's not even out yet, and yet the reviews are rather scathing.

We never go any where without our swords and boas.
No wonder they're racking up safety problems. You do gymnastic stuff for that long you get tired and start screwing up badly.

All the merchandising will make up for the mishaps and overrun.

Actually, the critics here on local tv have been slamming the director personally, saying she's a tyrant and a spoiled rich girl. Michael Riedel, the Post critic, has made it his personal jihad. Dude, who gives a crap?

I'm a skeptical squirrel
The real question is, can this possibly be worse than Rowan Atkinson's Comic Relief special Spider-Plant Man?
This just in: Julie Taymor is leaving the show as director.
I was trying (and not really succeeding) not to judge this musical until I actually heard the songs. I heard one called "rise up" and it sucked. Emo rock seems to be showing up more and more on broadway, and I don't mind it. But this was just... *wince*.

[up] Bloody Andrew Jackson was a vehicle for emo rock and little else.

Where's my black metal anthem starring Teddy Roosevelt?
I'm a skeptical squirrel
[up] No but Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson also parodied emo rock a little, as well as being political satire 200 years after the fact.
Moi?
Should probably mention it here: I made a Spidey Project topic over here, for the other Spider-man musical.

I listened to one of the songs form the show.

Someone please get Bono and The Edge a copy of Stephen Sondheim's Finishing the Hat, they don't know how to write theatre lyrics.
[up] I knew that... but then I forgot about it due to brain damage due to facepalming during the entirety of "Rise Up" or whatever that song is.

[up][up]Coincidentally, they halted the show to retool the script from scratch.
