So I've got a question that touches sampling morality in an odd way.
Right now I have spent about an hour loading random non-sound files into Renoise to see what they produce, my interest spurred by a Renoise forum thread which was in turn inspired by a Boing Boing article
(actually I did it before by mistake, but now I got interested).
Out of this hour, 3/4s were dedicated to playing around with what I got when I've loaded up scph10000.bin, which is a PS2 BIOS file *
. It is fascinating
. Why? Because aside from the broken modem sounds that aren't unique to this method of sound discovery, I somehow got tastily corrupted sounds from the PS2's intro and menu. Imagine this sound
getting mangled by Alva Noto; this is what I've got. Amazing.
Buuuuut I'm pretty sure these sounds are copyrighted. Use or don't use?
