I'm sorry but... TAKE THAT!
I present the watermelon gag from that episode where they paint the Chum Bucket. No one said they were prepared and there's no reason for Patrick to have a watermelon on his head. The writers just thought Patrcik randomly having a watermelon on his head for no reason would be funny.
To Be Updated when I'm not LazyHOLD IT!
I'd also like to point out that the slapstick used against Plankton has increased. While he received plenty of pain in Old Spongebob and the movie, it has gone Up To Eleven with the number of times its used. The aforementioned Bucket Sweet Bucket alone has a few examples of this.

"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Being a big Sponge Bob fan, long-time reader of TV tropes and new member, I'd like to join in your court argument. (Did I forget to mention I also like Phoenix Wright?)
Now, the beginning of the Post-Movie era isn't as bad as Season 6 and some of Season 7 was. Right now I'm watching the episode "New Leaf", and it's actually a pretty decent episode.
However, that was only around Season 4. Speaking of Season 6 and 7, there were some moments where Patrick turned into a total jerk. (for a full list of the worst moments in Sponge Bob, see the "dethroning moment of suck" section, although "the paper" was a good episode) I hated seeing Patrick being a jerk in some situations. Rule of Dumb is a perfect example, but at least he acknowledges it at the end. But thing is, he doesn't do this anymore.
And they make Sponge Bob more annoying. And Squidward is more depressed than grouchy.
My argument summed up: Sponge Bob is being flanderized. TAKE THAT!
On behalf of this thread, I would like to welcome you and hope that you gain something from the discussion. How about we start with a new random comparison? Let's see, how about Something Smells vs. The Battle of Bikini Bottom?
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules.""Battle of Bikini Bottom" is one of those that makes me ask, what is Bikini Bottom?! A country, a city? And if it's a country, a democracy or monarchy? "Good Neighbors" says it has a president, "Rule of Dumb" says it has a king, and now this episode says it had a civil war... but, the older episodes only treated it as a city. Why couldn't they just say that Bikini Bottom is a city located in some (made-up) country? I don't know why this bugs me, especially since fish could quite obviously have different governments than us, but since the fish are obviously analogues for people, it does.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.HOLD IT
Sponge Bob was never big on continuity. Whatever Bikini Bottom is, it's irrelavent to how good the cartoon was. MST3K Mantra more than apllies here.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianYeah, fair enough.
But, "Something Smells" still has the "DEUUEAUGH" line.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment. Also, in one Patrick washes his hands and in the other he says he never will.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Imitation Krabs says Bikini Bottom is a country, as it has an anthem.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DHuh, that's wierd, miru actually made a rational point.
Furthurmore, it was stated to be a national anthem, meaning that vast societies of intellegent fish exist all across the globe.
"It's just like... a series of overlapping curses." - Flower Knight DakiniNice one miru. Thanks for catching that for me.
Going off the "never washing hands" thing... does anyone else notice how awful of a character Patrick in general is now? He's supposed to be a lovable dolt, not a... a... The Ditz doesn't begin to describe what Patrick has become.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.I can't remember the last episode I've seen Patrick as likable, let alone lovable. Rule of Dumb, Yours Mine and Mine, Driven to Tears, The Battle of Bikini Bottom, all of them are relevant examples of his character alteration.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."He's also supposed to be kind of gentle and childlike, like SpongeBob... see "Big Pink Loser" for example. Though, "Rock-a-Bye Bivalve" could arguably have paved the way for his new characterization.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.Take That and Gotcha! He was smart in Neptune's Party, but not likeable.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DYou mean "Neptune's Spatula?" And how was he not likeable? He was his normal self in that episode, and didn't even really do much. If you're referring to his argument with King Neptune about challenging SpongeBob, that didn't matter because it was funny and not really mean in any way to begin with.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.I believe Miru's referring to The Clash of Triton. I suppose Patrick didn't particularly stand out in that episode to me. I'd say he was about so-so.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Yes, i was reffering to The Clash of Triton.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DOh. Well, I've never actually seen that episode.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.Though that does bring me back to my point of "realistic characters." Neptune returns with the same voice and appearance as his first one. Only this time he brings a few friends and his wife. You can tell they were drawn at different times without even knowing about Neptune's Spatula. Triton's the same way. Also, it's interesting how they can take an extremely minor character like King Neptune, bring him back, and immediately destroy his character by making him ten times of a jerk.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."OBJECTION!! Yes, I've never seen this episode, but... King Neptune was always pretty much a Jerk Sue. Assuming the one in the movie is meant to be the same character, I'd almost class him as Lawful Evil.
GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.OBJECTION! Jerk, yes, but Sue? I'd call the ending to Neptune's Spatula an argument against that. He was far from a Karma Houdini in that episode given that he didn't really do anything past the Moral Event Horizon. Given the fact that he's supposed to be a god, I'd say they need to give him a pretty good amount of ability. Technically, he should be a Marty Stu if you think about it. I'd say in his other two appearances he may very well be Lawful Evil given that he tends to abuse his power (especially in The Clash of Triton). The key fault I've seen that people have with that episode is that Neptune puts Triton in prison for thousands of years because he wanted to help mankind instead of ruling it with an iron fist. I'd say with that episode they've really brought up his jerkish tendencies.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Sure sounds like it.
But, how could he be a Stu but not Sue? They're the same thing; except Stu is the male version of the term, and I bet Jerk Stu won't Wiki Word. (Never mind, it does! )
Anyway, I guess "Clash of Triton" probably made it quite a bit worse than it had been before, and it also seems out of character for him to lock up Triton just because of his different regime. He didn't do it to Mindy, and he hadn't even learned his lesson by that point, of course.

GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.Actually, I was saying he should be a Jerk Stu, but I don't really see him as one.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Having recently watched a bunch of episodes, both old and new, I have to say I'm getting kind of annoyed by Mr. Krabs. Yes, he likes money. We get it. It's not funny. I know he was like that in the older episodes, but in the newer ones he seems to have become downright evil to the point where you will always have to sympathize with Plankton (if you didn't do that anyway ).
Just something that bugs me.
May be one of the worst? Is the worst.
