Your idea is noble, but doomed to fail due to it eventually being taken Off the Rails by Phoenix Wright jokes.
^You've got a good point, but I hadn't actually considered the thread becoming a "success." I just thought it would be a fun way to toss some ideas around.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."IMO:
Seasons 1-3 (Plus the Movie): The best era.
Season 4: OK, The quality is lower (WAY lower), but still ok overall. Plus, It had a couple episodes that are Somewha close to those in Seasons 1-3.
Season 5: COMPLETE FAILURE
Havent whatched Seasons 6-8 Yet. But for what I heard, its about the same quality as Season 4...
Basically, What nearly everyone else thinks.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."IMO
1-3: Great
4: Ok
5: Decent
6: Good, with a few bad eps
7: Good
8: Very good, best post movie season thus far.
By the way, What do you mean with "Phoenix Wright" Style????

"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."My idea was to present evidence from New Spongebob and then something from Old Spongebob to compare with. The three memetic phrases from Phoenix Wright, Take That!, Hold It!, and Objection! would be used to present evidence, clear up something you don't understand or is unclear, or present a counterexample to some evidence respectively. My personal reasoning is that New Spongebob is so unfaithful to Old Spongebob that I treat it as a different series altogether. I intend to present a few things to the court that explain my reasoning.
Here's my example:
Take That! I present episode Krusty Dogs from New Spongebob to the court as evidence. Now note closely at Spongebob's behavior regarding no longer being able to cook Krabby Patties. Now I present episode Bossy Boots from Old Spongebob. I think you'll find a massive contradiction in these two episodes. Care to cross-examine?

"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Honestly, I wouldn't call the new Spongebob eps unfaithful, but rather the show is just a product of being on the air too long. The new episodes certainly aren't simply a black/ white contradiction to the originals but they just lack the interesting flair the originals had. Not all the new episodes are bad and I can certainly point out several of the original ones that were horrible too. Flanderization does happen in almost every show, so it's a natural process that either you love or hate. I think it's just that everyone simply got used to Spongebob being around so long, he's simply a tired overused icon.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. Is Spongebob still the 1# program on Nick? Or someone else did defeat it???
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."^As far as I know, Spongebob is still top cartoon according to KCA.
^^See and that's exactly what I'm prosecuting against. I want to see people present counterexamples so if nothing else I can at least see some justification in the new episodes. I'm sure most of it falls under YMMV since basically everything does, but I will stand by my claim that New Spongebob is unfaithful to Old Spongebob unless I can see some thought-provoking evidence that says otherwise.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Well....then that's your own opinion. I don't have to agree with it but you're free to make your own interpretation of the show. Spongebob is Spongebob, either you Love It or Hate It. You know, many people also hated him in his earlier years as well- why not just have a general thread of all around bad Spongebob episodes?
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.^ Still you're on the right track of the meaning of this thread. If people want to make claims about Old Spongebob being bad, they are free to present their own evidence. The overall purpose I have here is to go past the "New Spongebob is lame" and "Old Spongebob is way better" comments and actually put forth some evidence. I suppose this is a general bad Spongebob episode thread, but I refuse to acknowledge New Spongebob as Spongebob.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."So apparentily Season 8 is worth whatching now?
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."Has Season 8 premiered yet? What episodes does it have?
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Yeah, I hear the later seasons got back up in quality.
For the OP, though, a good example is to watch for any sign of attempt at random humor. The hated seasons in question were often attempts to emulate, say, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.^ Yes, that's a good point. Random humor only works when it's funny. Failed attempts come of as unbearably painful to watch.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."So now I hear that 2011 is Spongebob's last year. IMO, the saddest thing about all of this is that New Spongebob ran for longer than Old Spongebob. If Spongebob actually did get back on track, I would actually be disappointed. Up to now I have yet to see any evidence of improvement in the show, so I guess I'm relieved that it might be ending.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Link?
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."I've been looking around the Internet for more concrete evidence about this issue. From what I've gathered it seems to be untrue. Some people aren't convinced, but overall it seems to be a false alarm.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Considering it's Nick's biggest damn franchise, I wouldn't count it being real.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianDidnt anyone else beat its rating before??? (ex: Avatar/Invader Zim re runs???)
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."Well Avatar beat ikt once in the KCA
We must survive, all of us. The blood of a human for me, a cooked bird for you. Where is the difference?Let's have an episode comparison to clarify some difference:
Compare the episode The Paper vs. Boating Buddies.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."Let me Take a Third Option. Both of those episodes suck.
TAKE THAT!!
However let's compare Boating Buddies to Band Geeks AKA the Sweet Victory episode.
To Be Updated when I'm not LazyThat was kind of my point. Taking an unpopular Old Spongebob episode and comparing it with an unpopular New Spongebob episode. However, could you elaborate on why you believe neither episode is good?
The first thing I would point out in comparing Band Geeks and Boating Buddies, however, would be:
TAKE THAT!
Notice how Spongebob behaves to and around Squidward between the two episodes. There is an enormous difference.
"Life is a game, you just have to learn the rules."
I've been looking around the forums now and I can't find a topic that actually takes an in-depth look at Old Spongebob compared to New Spongebob. Everyone comments that New Spongebob has fallen short of the previous seasons due to Flanderization, Seasonal Rot, Character Derailment, and a huge mess of other things. However, I haven't really seen too many examples that state something bad about the new season and actually provides a supporting example from the old episodes to prove their point. That's what I made this thread for. And I thought it would be fun to do it Phoenix Wright Style.
