If I were to rank the FE characters in 4 from least-likely to most-likely to get cut from 5mash, I'd say Marth, Ike, Corrin, Robin, Lucina, Roy.
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."I would take a decloned Lucina over the entirety of my wishlist and I will forever hold a grudge against Sakurai for creating the narrative that all she is is gender-swapped Marth.

This song needs more love.x2 Lucina's one of the most popular characters in her franchise. So much so that the Fire Emblem Warriors devs were told to keep her when they wanted to cut her for being redundant with Chrom. She's not leaving.
Honestly, Fire Emblem's in a position where you can't really axe anybody who was in 4's roster. Every character placed pretty high on the Choose Your Legends poll from last year.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Well, with that in mind, I guess my list should look like this then: Marth, Ike, Lucina, Corrin, Robin, Roy.
I can't help but wonder if any of them will end up being cut, though. Every one of them is popular (or at least relevant) in some way.

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."Roy's in a weird position in that he's popular... but he's popular because of Smash Bros. He's the only one of the top twenty of the Heroes' popularity poll whose game was never localized.

This song needs more love.I'm still not entirely sure WHY he became so popular in Melee, thinking about it. Wasn't he basically just a worse Marth with fire effects in that game, or am I misremembering?
Why's Ike so popular? I mean, he fits that one-handed giant sword user thing well, but it's a little strange.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Simply put, Ike is one of, if not, the best written Fire Emblem lords in the series thanks to his journey and character development throughout his games. This makes him very popular among Fire Emblem fans.

For the most part, the characters on my wishlist (which I made with the mindset that this is a brand new game instead of just a port of Smash 4) are there simply because "I think they're cool and would love to see them in", but for some of them, I do have some sort of explanantion...
- Toon Zelda: Since the teaser showed Link in his Breath of the Wild incarnation, and I've heard many people say that said incarnation would have a different moveset than regular Link, I would guess that they're going to alter both Link and Zelda's movesets to match up with that game. If that's the case, I want them to also include Toon Zelda (and keep Toon Link, of course) so that the old movesets can stick around in some form.
- Impa: Notice how I used her Hyrule Warriors artwork in the image. This may sound weird, but I think that version of Impa would double both as another Zelda character, and also as representation for the Warriors games (the only alternative I can think of would be having Lu Bu as a third-party guest character, which I don't see happening).
- Sceptile: My first choice for a Gen 3 starter would've been Blaziken, but since Charizard is already there representing Fire, I'm going with Sceptile, which also has a Mega Evolution that'd make for an easy Final Smash.
- Diskun: My big weakness with fighting game crossovers like Smash is my desire to see super obscure characters make it into the game. I don't know why, but I just think it's awesome when a company like Nintendo is willing to acknowledge even the most obscure stuff that only the most hardcore fans know about. Plus, I see R.O.B. as sort of representing the american NES in the game (he was instrumental in bringing the system to America), so Diskun could make a decent companion representing the japanese Famicom.
- Ryu Hayabusa: I'm honestly surprised this character isn't brought up more in Smash discussions, or at least I haven't seen him brought up often. His trilogy of games on the NES is considered one of the great Nintendo Hard classics along with Mega Man and Castlevania, right? I know that most modern audiences are probably more familiar with the rebooted Ninja Gaiden games that started on the Xbox, but it'd still be nice to see a reminder of the series' Nintendo roots.
- Billy & Jimmy: Another character (or characters) I'm surprised isn't brought up more often, though not as surprising as Ryu Hayabusa since Double Dragon doesn't have much a presence today, other than the occasional release like Double Dragon Neon. Still, the original Double Dragon game (both the arcade game and its NES port) is considered one of the defining beat-em'-up games (along with Final Fight and Streets of Rage, and I don't think Haggar or Axel are getting in any time soon). Gameplay wise, I also think they would make for another Ice Climbers-type character, with one character following the other's lead in everything they do.
- Tracer: The past two Smash games had a third-party character that almost no one expected to see. Brawl had Solid Snake, and Smash 4 had Cloud and Bayonetta. I see Tracer as potentially being the Unexpected Character that no one sees coming (though really, I guess it could also potentially be anyone else). On a lesser note, I also think she would be a decent choice to represent PC gaming in Smash, though that's probably a more personal preference my part, since more people would probably want someone else like Doomguy for that.
- Raiden: Out of all the characters on my wish list, this one's probably the most selfish, and also the most unlikely. I love Platinum Games as a developer (imagine my excitement when freaking Bayonetta made it into Smash 4), and Metal Gear Rising was my first big exposure to that company, so seeing the Rising incarnation of Raiden in a Smash game would be a dream come true for me. Unfortunately, I also consider him the most unlikely character, simply because his inclusion would require Konami pulling their heads out of their asses (at least with Tracer, I imagine Blizzard would be significantly easier to work with).
You're remembering wrong. Roy was a better Marth with fire effects.
Luigisan asked me to rate his list from way back on page 3832, and he also passed me this link with a few more predictions. Here we go. I'm not going to differentiate between base and DLC characters, because there's no particular reason to.
Not happening.
These are non-game characters who originate outside video games, and characters whose series have never had an instalment on a Nintendo console. Each is given ∞:1 odds.
- Joker
- Joseph Joestar
- Ruby Rose
- Spider-Man
- Rey
Pokémon
I'll give 1:10 odds on a Pokémon from the new game making it in. Other than taht, I haven't paid attention to the franchise since Gold and Silver, so I can't be any more specific as I just don't know anything about the newer ones.
Others
Skipping over the characters I alread rated...
Captain Toad: A definite possibility. He's appeared in multiple Mario games and even hot his own spinoff, so I can definitely see Captain Toad getting in (oh, and by the way, you are all way overthinking the fact that he can't jump in his own game. To reference that aspect, just give him a low jump). Alternatively, Toad (not Captain) will be playable, possibly with Toadette and Toadsworth as alternate costumes, and special moves based on those of Captain Toad. 4:1.
King K.Rool: He is Donkey Kong's most iconic villain even if he hasn't appeared recently. 7:1
Dixie Kong: You know she's already in there, right? I don't see Dixie becoming anything other than an alt for Diddy. 50:1.
Prince Sidon: Unlikely. Sidon is a fun character, but he's a supporting NPC from one part of one game. 50:1
A new character from Metroid Prime 4:' Not likely. There's exceedingly little information about MP 4 available currently, so we can't speculate on who it might be, and Nintendo will probably want it to be someone who has appeared in multiple games if they aren't a protagonist.
Knuckle Joe: Unlikely. Knuckle Joe is a mook, much like goombas, koopas, metroids, and bokoblins. Still, he was a distinct character in the anime, so I'll give him 10:1.
Takamaru: Boy is this one reaching. Takamaru would simultaneously fulfil the roles of the forgotten retro character (Ice Climbers, Pit, Duck Hunt Duo) and the character whose game hasn't yet gotten an overseas release (Ness, Marth, Roy, Lucas, Corrin). Then again, Takamaru is particularly Japanese, and might be too obscure even for Nintendo to make playable. For sure he'll an asssist trophy at least, but as to being a playable character, I'll give him 20:1.
Lip: A character from a match 3 game would certainly have an interesting moveset, and her flower has been there since at least Melee. While her games may not be all that popular, they seem to sell solidly, so at the very least she's more plausible than Takamaru. 15:1.
Isaac: While the first two games were highly acclaimed, Dark Sun doesn't seem to have performed as well. Isaac is a possibility, but I don't think he has the cultural cachet to pull it off. Still, I might be wrong; apprently he was big enough to be an assist trophy in Brawl, so anything is possible. 15:1
Sami: Not her. If Nintendo Wars gets a representative, it will be Andy. That said, a Nintendo Wars representative isn't outside the realm of possibility, though the fact that they don't take to the field themselves (Batallion Wars excepted) limits the likelihood. If there is one, they could be the one to use modern weapons, like Snake did in Brawl; naturally, their final smash will be to call in an entire army. 20:1 for any Nintendo Wars rep, 100:1 for Samu in particular.
The Chorus Men: Doubtful; Rhythm Heaven would work much better as a stage. 50:1.
Sukapon: Oh hi Mr Capcom's Copyright Lawyer. Seriously though, this is another candidate for forgotten, unexported retro game. I like the idea, and it's not like Joy Mech Fight has less recognition than Ice Climber. 100:1 if Mega Man returns, 60:1 if he doesn't.
Celica: Almost certainly not. Non-protagonist Fire Emblem characters tend not to get in, nor do characters from older games when there are newer ones. 60:1
A new character from Fire Emblem Switch: This is what Nintendo is going to do. 1:10.
Elma: Maybe, but Rook is more likely, and X will probably be passed over in favour of 2. 20:1.
Rex & Pyra: Rex for certain. Pyra is less definite; I give for 1:3 as part of Rex's final smash, 1:1 as an assist character, 5:1 as a duo with Rex a la the Ice Climbers, 10:1 as a seperate character.
Inklings: Already confirmed.
Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Twintelle: There'll be at least one ARMS rep, but I don't have it yet so I can't say who. Possibly there'll be a bunch present as alt costumes. 1:10 for at least one of Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, or Twintelle getting in.
Banjo & Kazooie: I have been lumping them in the "never going to happen" pile, but then Phil Spencer made that tweet, so I'm upgrading them from impossible to improbable. This would still require Nintendo to make a deal with Microsoft to use a Rare duo, and they dropped Rare back in the GameCube era. 100:1.
Lloyd Irving: Dude, I know you love Tales of Symphonia, but Tales isn't exactly Final Fantasy. 50:1.
Shovel Knight: Quite likely. He has an amiibo, so Nintendo takes this series seriously. As others have said, Nintendo published Shovel Knight in Japan and marketed it aggressively, to the point of it being a Switch exclusive over there. 1:1.
Paula or Ninten: Maybe. I know basically nothing about Earthbound, so they might just end up being alts for Ness and Lucas.
Dillon: Perhaps. That said, I think Dillon's Rolling Western might be digital-only, which impacts its possibility. 10:1.
Rowan/Lianna: Unlikely, as they're from outside the core series. 20:1
Shantae: Less lkely than Shovel Knight, but Nintendo is pushing Shantae a little bit. 6:1.
Saber Artoria Pendragon: Well, Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star did get a Switch release, and stranger things have happened (Snake and Cloud, anyone?) Unlikely, considering Fate/'s niche audience, but not impossible. 75:1.
Zhao Yun: The Dynasty Warriors characters are eligible by virtue of the existence of Dynasty Warriors Advance, but unlikely due to being historical figures. 80:1.
Heihachi Mishima: He's been on Nintendo consoles and Namco gets along well with Nintendo. Tekken is also old enough to be considered retro, but I think Kazuya is more likely. 20:1 if Namco helps with development of Smash Switch, 40:1 otherside.
Rayman: I really want Rayman to make it in. Ubisoft gets along well with Nintendo, Raymen has been on Nintendo consoles, he had a trophy in Smash U designed by Ubi, if you count Rabbids as part of the Rayman franchise, there was even a crossover with Mario. 5:1.
Travis Touchdown: No More Heroes is a predominantly Nintendo series and Grasshopper is relatively friendly with Nintendo; plus, if Bayonetta can get in, Travis shouldn't pose any problems. 5:!.
Dirk the Daring: Eh, maybe. I don't think Dirk would look right unless he was cel-shaded, which would clash with the overall aesthetic, plus Dirk's most recent appearance was in 2005. Also, did Dragon's Lair ever get exported to Japan? Becaue if it didn't, that's knock against its inclusion. 60:1.
Stanley: Maybe an alt for Mario, at most an assist trophy. I don't see Stanley being made a full character. 100:1.
Thomas: Not happening because you need Jackie Chan's permission to use his likeness. ∞:1
Urban Champion: Isn't that Ryu? Seriously though, Urban Champion works better as a stage, and even then I think it's more likely we'll get a Street Fighter stage.
Tethi/u: Maaaybe. Ever Oasis is low-profile and digital-only, but it's still possible. 6:1.
Hector: Nope. Old game and he isn't the protagonist. 100:1.
A Monster Hunter: It could happen, but I'm skeptical. 40:!.
Doom Slayer: It would be a fun coup to see Doomguy in Smash; too bad he's an FPS icon and Smash is a Japanese game. 60:1.
Crash Bandicoot: He has games on Nintendo consoles and Nintendo is pushing him a little bit, plus he has a measure of retro appeal. I'd say he's as likely as Shantae. 6:1

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I think you forgot Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy. Can I ask why PC gaming needs to be represented in Smash at all? I'm sorry, but that idea just seems very weird to me.
So which characters, besides the original 12, are always guaranteed to come back?
I suppose the ones that always come first to represent a franchise are guaranteed to stay (Namely Marth, Pit or Shulk for example)
Uni catMost of the characters on my desired list are ones other people have already listed, but what odds do you think Kamek has, specifically as a second Yoshi rep?
Honestly, just about any character who has managed to appear in two consecutive games feels pretty stable. Ice Climbers are the only exception due to technical limitations rather than deliberate exclusion.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! In the place of Banjo & Kazooie what about Yooka and Laylee? They were heavily inspired by the former and aren't owned by Microsoft and have had a game recently on a Nintendo console
My wish list after a lot of thinking looks like this
- Cecil harvey:A proper representative for Final Fantasy, appeared on the SNES in ' fFinal Fantasy IV
- Pious Augustus : I'm really fond of overlooked games like Eternal Darkness,Pious was main bad guy,an undead lich, would make a good spell caster character,or he can attack with his staff
- Alexandra Roivas : Protagonist for Eternal Darkness,in the place of the above.
- Midna-Appeared as assist previously, one of more memorable characters from Twilight Princess
- Byne:More Zelda representation!Bad guy from Spirit Tracks
- Marina Liteyears :Another character from an overlooked game, this time from the N64 'Mischief Makers'
It does sound weird, but I've heard people suggest Crash Bandicoot for Sony representation (which makes sense to me, since he was basically Sony's answer to Mario and Sonic).

This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
Their game also largely flew under the radar and has barely been on the market for two years and may not even have a Japanese localization.
edit: It was localized in Japanese, but it basically fell completely off everyone's radar regardless.

Despite being utterly obsolete in the Zelda franchise for years, Sheik has a 100% chance of getting in, just because of how beloved she is in competitive circles.
Personally, I don't see Shovel Knight making it in because he's already in a Platform Fighter game, one specifically for indie characters, called Indie Pogo.
While Crash was Sony's answer to Mario and Sonic, his exclusive status lasted until Crash Bash. Later games had releases in other consoles.
The edge he has other platforming mascots is that he had a few exclusive games in Nintendo like The Huge Adventure, N-Tranced and the Crash-Spyro games in GBA. Funnily enough those were developed by the team who later went on to make the N. Sane Trilogy.
Crash's inclusion depends on if Sakurai has considered crash way back in 2016, which is a posibility since the Japanese adored Crash and some even voted for him in the Smash Ballot.

Uni catYou know, I'm kinda surprised Hades wasn't a boss on Palutena's Temple. Basically saying that I want Hades to be the boss for a Kid Icarus Uprising stage.
I want bosses to be more than just stage hazards. That is to say: I want a Boss mode where you all can team up to fight bosses who appear on certain stages and don't appear outside of that mode (and in Classic).
edited 25th Mar '18 2:03:19 PM by PushoverMediaCritic
I remember Brawl having that.
I wonder if adjusted, more aggressive versions of stage hazard bosses such as Metal Face, Ridley, and Yellow Devil could show up in a Boss Rush mode alongside whatever Adventure Mode bosses are already in it.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
Personally, I can kinda see either losing or de-cloning Lucina if anyone was to be cut. Mostly since unlike the others, she's the only redundant character due to Robin also representing Awakening. x3
