Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

OK, assuming I didn't screw it up somehow, Babylon Five is now split (since the trope list was already soft-split by letter anyway).
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I think That Guy With The Glasses Index MIGHT have worked, if it didn't have an influx of new recruits over the last year and a half.
Split or delete?
Hmm, can someone explain to me on Characters.Metaspace how Metaspace and Meta-technology are "characters"?
Looks like Headscratchers.Pokemon needs archiving again.
Taking on Prehistoric Life - Dinosaurs. And done.
Maybe not the best place to ask, but can a writing team "invoke" or "enforce" Moral Event Horizon?
Also, there's some nasty flamebait on WMG.The Legend Of Zelda about "the creators' intent for the timeline". Should I just axe that crap, rather than move it to its rightful place on WMG.The Legend Of Zelda Timeline?

Okay, someone else do WMG.The Legend Of Zelda. This is way too much hassle as well as crackpot theories for me to handle. And this is speaking as a Zelda fan who understands bits and pieces of the timeline.
Split is done for "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”re:Metaspace: It was created (and is currently maintained by) someone who doesn't seem to know that we have an Unpublished Works section, because that's certainly what it is.
Ahh, as it's unpublished, I'm guessing the answer is "no".
Even so, I was talking about the Character sheet (which I believe still goes on the Characters namespace, even if it should be indexed on Unpublished Works).

Next time somebody has a go, I'd appreciate screen shots for How To Split A Page.
Fight smart, not fair. What exactly do you need screenshots of?
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Mostly, I want screen shots of interesting parts of the editing process. Anything where you have to click a button for instance, it's good to show people where the button is.
Fight smart, not fair.@Deboss
You could try giving Girl Genius a go for your project; it too is already soft-split. It's just not split quite as conveniently as Babylon 5 was, so it's going to take a bit more time to figure out how many letter folders should go on which page. I just hadn't gotten around to it yet.
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I think the TGWTG index should be deleted. There's a ridiculous amount of people now updating, and what purpose does it serve?
You're just not into it.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI'm probably misunderstanding, but I do love the site. It's just I don't see the point in an index where everything that happens in a new review can be found on their respective pages.
I think Eddie's joking that you're not into TGWTG enough for you to understand, but I might be wrong.
@Deboss: I'll try to get some screens next time I split, which should be sometime today.
Edit: Did you want screens of splitting a work or a trope? I was going to do a trope.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Done Real Life.
Anyone think that Characters.Bleach should be separated into something more legible than Bleach, Bleach 2, Bleach 2.1, Bleach 2.2 and Bleach 3? Call it a hunch, but I'm gathering they're not arc or season subtitles like "Torchwood: Miracle Day".
And I have no idea how the Trope Pantheons work; should Heroes And Villains be separated into Heroes and Villains?

^ Even though the titles aren't really indicative, the pages are organized and detail specific groups of characters. Additionally, Characters.Bleach has a key detailing what characters are on each character page.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Don't care whether it's a work or a trope.
Fight smart, not fair. Was planning to separate Awesome.Video Game Levels by genre, but what on Earth does Nights Into Dreams fit into?
I think it would be much better to split it based on alphabetical. Your much less likely to get arguments on what genre it fits in compared to what letter it starts with.
Fight smart, not fair.Done Awesome.Video Game Levels. What next?
I'll work on splitting the That Guy With The Glasses Index page.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
Latest counts.
