I haven't played it. I just watched a Let's Play.

THANK FUCKING GOD. Thank you SO much, Darth Wiki.

That much said, the "good" ending is one of the most adorable things I've seen in forever.

I like little "terror Mc Nuggets" games like this/ Yume Nikki/ Mondo Medicals.

I played it.

The demon hands startled me, and the demonic hand sperm coming out of the wall of blood were annoying, but that's about it.

The ending just made me say "Shit."

I also only watched the LP, if only because I don't have Windows.

I was watching the "blind" LP; listening to the guy suffer from what one commenter called "I Wanna Be The Guy Disease" was quite lulzy. The game becomes basically a Brown Note to him and he starts ranting; it's hilarious (not like the other LP where he's pretty obviously faking his surprise).

Kind of off-topic, but... the guy in the blind Let's Play... What do you call that accent of his?

... Because I LOVE IT.

EDIT: Never mind, my suspicion that he's Scottish was confirmed. Incidentally, that means Scottish is a frikkin adorable accent.

Jesus. This game. How does something so simple manage to be so scary?

It's bad enough that the unexpected changes gave me Silent Hill flashbacks, but I nearly lost it when it changed into the last one. You know...where the only sound is heartbeat noises. I hate heartbeat noises. They make me twitch.

And those cute little messages when you die. Oh, how adorable they are.

My favorites are READY (TO DIE) and BEHIND YOU.

The ever-scrambling score meter in the 4th world or so was uber-weird.

The first hand freaked the crap out of me EVEN THOUGH I WAS WATCHING IT ON YOUTUBE. NOT PLAYING IT.

I had a Scottish chemistry teacher in tenth grade. Everyone loved her accent. Even my parents.

I absolutely LOVED this game.

True I was startled when that big hand first showed up, but once I knew how to handle them, I was happy.

My favourite level was the one with all the layers of eversion except the darkest layer.

When I downloaded the game a few minutes ago, I was expecting whimsy by the barrelful. Now, I'm scared. So very scared.

This game was part of a contest to make a game based on Lovecraft's commonplace book (random thoughts journal). There are other entries, and while none of them has the same paranoid feel some are quite good, especially "Verge" which has a cool gameplay mechanic.

Just wanted to point out, Eversion runs magnificently under Wine.

And damn, it's awesome.

SPOILERS BE IN THIS POST.

I just finished playing this game, after some people on IRC introduced me to it.

It has a very very awesome mechanic, and an interesting motivation to it. The mechanic of switching dimensions not only allows the designer to make puzzle elements, but also to insert flavor elements.

The flavoring was done quite well. Though after the game ended I realize I didn't have my speakers on loud enough to hear the heartbeat.

The game was meh. Good for a few hours of fun, but some features such as the red wall closing in on you make grabbing the last three coins/gems/skulls/hearts/whatever of level 6 a pain. Also, backtracking and solving level 7 is a pain until you actually bother to write down everything, at which point it becomes the only major puzzle in the game. (Level 8 is just a test of patience.)

I was fully expecting a final boss fight after level 8. Haha.

The "bad" ending had a slight twist, but knowing that I hadn't gotten all the gems I knew something would go wrong, and I was neither delighted nor fazed by the twist. The "good" ending, however, was just a mind-screw of a twist.

Ehh.

Also, music was meh. Good in being consistent with the atmosphere, but nothing particularly stellar. Graphics were nice and functional.

But a sticking point of gameplay was the difficulty of lining up your character with single-block holes. As well as the inability to jump when it's in a corridor of height one block.

As well as the inability to jump when it's in a corridor of height one block.

Not entirely true...

I once was able to jump on an enemy in the last stage, even though the roof was the space above it. Two spaces above where I was standing.

I've never been able to replicate this feat since.

You had room to jump, though.

When the roof is right above you, you can't jump.

Point taken. I realised what was meant after I had already posted, but I couldn't be bothered editing my post.

I played this thing, and I just cannot stop myself from admiring the thing as a work of art. Every detail, every little thing altered between dimensions to make it progressively scarier and scarier... it is perfect. No seriously. I have studied this game, in detail. It is a masterpiece. Like the way the formerly friendly face blocks look like they're in melting or in agony in dimension 6, or the removal of most of the interface in 7 and 8 (like the score counter and the labels), or the way level 6 looks like "Oh, more dimension 6, I guess I can handle WHAT THE F***?" I didn't get to be scared of the level with the fake happy-face-block and the first appearance of hands because I'd managed to spoil that level on Youtube, sadly, but it had many scary moments nonetheless. With the exception of level 6, I didn't find getting the gems tedious or frustrating at all, and I loved the way you had to find your way all the way from -7 to -1 in the final level in order to complete it. The ending was terribly predictable but still managed to scare the crap out of me, because it looked so much like you should've been able to do something and she just advances so slowly but you can't even move and then she arrives and you're booted straight to the desktop. The bonus level was a bit of a letdown though, because the gimmick boiled down to "Wait until it shifts to the right dimension, go forward, repeat"—though I did like the part with the dozen or so hands in a row, where I slowly and unnecessarily creeped forward one hand at a time and got to sit there stewing in agony as it switched between the higher dimensions five or six times in a row before releasing me.

Oh, and I loved the blind runs on Youtube (There's more than just the one person who's done it).

Your funny quote here! (Maybe)

Is it what it sounds like it is, and can you give a link to a vid here?

That was cool.

...Except for the bits where he sped it up, because then I couldn't hear him complain. :P (And there were also bits he skipped, which I am quite annoyed about.)

.

In other news, I know someone with that accent. It is a funny accent. Something British.

Just finished this. World 8 was brutal — not as bad as Cave Story's Sacred Ground, but bad enough. The good ending's adorable, though.

I imagine this is kind of like what you'd get if the makers of Eternal Darkness developed for the NES.

I love this game. I went into it knowing nothing, and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. Almost shat myself the first time the hands appeared.

And allow me to extend some personal kudos to whoever wrote the articles. smile

I hate the moving wall segments, especially where you have to play blind for a couple of seconds in world 6-7.

Also, THE HANDS!
