Anyone feel there might be some further hints towards the Stealth Sequel theory? In particular they juxtapose the Rebuild version of Asuka with two scenes that never happened in the remake but were in the original (Toji looking at her panties by accident and the infamous masturbation scene). And of course the use of the tide shots again. And then the final scene is Shinji in his new Rebuild outfit with a reflection of his schoolboy uniform in the water.

So much Technology Porn. I wish they had done a straight better-than-original remake a la the Gurren Lagann movies. BTW, I think they used this very same song in a trailer predating the first movie.

... And am I the only one who thinks there's a significance to the fact that the last set of reflections had everyone but Rei in the new 3.0 plugsuits, while Rei retained her old white suit as opposed to Kuronami's black one?^note As in, it may imply that 3.0+1.0 will not have Kuronami act as a vessel for Rei's resurrection, and may even have her die after finally gaining a semblance of the humanity that she was deprived of in the process of her creation, as a form of Redemption Equals Death (probably as a Heroic Sacrifice to save Shinji from certain death, while encouraging him to save the real Rei).

Speaking of Rei, how do you think her relationship with Shinji is in this series, especially since she has pretty much taken over the main female supporting character role from Asuka?

Most of the dudes at Eva Geeks strictly view it as being sibling-esque (mainly due to the reveal), but I (obviously) see it as slightly romantic (due to his devotion to her). I won't deny that it can be viewed either way, but what say you guys?

Friendship may/possibly turning into romantic with a touch of getting out of each other's shells.

Not that it matters anyways, since nothing is ever gonna come from it.

But honestly, even if it isn't romantic, it isn't sibling either, siblings are family they know each other's quirks in and out, and usually there is also an "older-younger" dynamic. Which is not the case for Shinji and Rei, since they are still discovering each other.

...I honestly don't get it where you see all that. I'm a regular at EvaGeeks and I've never heard any official stance of that nature from my fellow members. In fact, Shinji/Rei has quite a few fans there.

Tell that to the people over at the Rebuild part of the forums.

Utada is coming back for Final's theme song so long as the 2015 release date holds true.

Of course. She's as much a part of this series as she is for Kingdom Hearts.

Also, I still would find it hilarious and awesome if it ended with Shinji and Gendo going all Matrix Revolutions Neo vs. Smith to decide the fate of the world (complete with Shinji knocking off his father's glasses in the same manner).

Funi is officially hoping to release 3.33 sometime this year. Wouldn't it be funny if they can't and it ends up taking another thirteen years?

Oh wow it looks like I'll have to listen to that!

Come to think about it, I wonder if Anno himself cares all that much for this series, considering how long he has been holding off working on the last film, and has instead focused on voice acting and promoting other animation projects.

How do we know he and Khara aren't working on the final film as we speak? Everything about these Rebuild films have been pretty damn secretive and we've already been teased for FINAL with a title.

If this is actually true, then we may not see the film till next year.

Apparently, in his quest to make 3.33 as dark and depressing as he could make it, he ended up feeling emotionally drained at the end.

At least he had his wife with him this time around.
