They simply can't see Rei and Shinji together or having the main relationship in Rebuild for the sole purpose that the former is a clone of Yui (they point out that the kids would end up like Charles II the Bewitched )

That, and most of them think Asuka is the greatest character of all the Evangelion sagas.

Well, they ended up together by default in Eo E....'cause everyone else was dead. Honestly, I've seen like a half-dozen equally valid interpretations of Eo E, so...yeah. It doesn't meant that much.

I can't see them ending up together in Rebuild either(except in the Eo E default sense maybe) just bc that seems like waaay to happy of a ending for this franchise.

Even though I'm a Shinji x Rei shipper despite what the folks at Eva Geeks say, I would prefer it if it had a Bittersweet Ending, where Shinji and Rei have one last moment together before one of them has to die for good or something. Think Die Buster.

I still can't entirely decide if I like Rebuild 3.0 or not. I was pretty turned off by it initially because it wasn't what I was expecting at all; the second rebuild was the most optimistic thing in the entire franchise, and then 3.0 is arguably the darkest (that I've seen). I've warmed up to it since then, especially since I feel like the punch in the gut was in line with Eva tradition.

I feel bad for Shinji because no matter what he does or doesn't do, he just gets shit on by everyone and everything all the time. Rebuild 3.0 is arguably the biggest fuck you to him there ever was because for once in the franchise's history everyone really DOES hate him. It's pretty much his own personal hell.

I don't really see Shinji "ending up" with anyone, though it's a bit hard to say at this point where 4.0 is going to end up.

Yeah, I only see Shinji "ending up" with anyone in the Eo E sense, which I hope doesn't happen. But if it does, I hope its Mari, since she and Sakura are the only people known to be alive who don't treat him like shit.

Shinji ending up with Mari would be such a hilarious "take a third option" middle finger to the fanbase. Would not mind that at all provided they actually do something with her character in 4.0 to make her more than just a veiled parody.

So a few days ago, Funi went ahead and put a bit more detail in regards to how they're "working with the Japanese studio to get the release as close to the creator's vision as possible"

So yeah, Funimation are working with Anno on redubbing the film. Interesting stuff I must say.

I mean how many of you would pass up the opportunity to work with such a man like him?

Considering previous rebuild previews, 8+2 is probably a lie.

Or Shinji could just BSOD for another fourteens years and FINAL picks up just in time for us to miss all the fun parts.

On another note, one thing I missed from this saga was the attempt to make an autonomic mech to fight the Angels, Jet Alone, and how laughably it performed. Who wants to bet that, in the 14 years between the events of 2.22 and 3.33, or even between 1.11 and 2.22, something like this was shown?

Jet Alone Prime could fill some gaps...

Also, the folks at Eva Geeks are absolutely determined that Asuka is gonna be with Shinji for reasons like this.

Mhm. Shipping is very much a 'who cares' thing for me at this point.

Yeah that's actually the type of thing they'd probably satirize/use as trollbait, if anything. it's a "we have this entire ambitious project about the loneliness and frailty of the human condition and the thing you care most about is who shinji ends up with are you kidding me" type of thing.

Which is funny, because in most stories, the lead ending up with someone would be exactly the way to solve their loneliness. Which is Truth in Television, because to stop being a self damaging loner you have to establish stable and lasting ties with others (even if not always of a romantic nature, but those can work too).

The thing is this plot has alienated all of its characters so much, they're pretty much hopeless cases in a hopeless world by now, unless they start asspulling like crazy.
