No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

So I know it's kind of vogue to give Rowboat Girlyman shit, but I got my hands on his stat block and he actually has some really unique rules.
For one, he can give every unit of a specific type (for example, every Land Raider) in his Ultramarines army list either Implacable Advance, Tank Hunter, or Interceptor. This means you could, say, give an entire Land Raider squadron the ability to shoot planes out of the sky, which is pretty nifty.
His WS also goes up every round he's in a Challenge.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Actually Skyfire I think is the rule to shoot stuff out of the sky.
It is. You apparently get to overwatch deep striking units with Interceptor.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.I participated in the Throne of Skulls event at GWHQ this week end. I took my Imperial Guard for the first time and I did far better than I thought I was going to, I lost all my games and came second to last.
Game 1 was against an Eldar Ghost Warrior army and I did reasonably well seeing as most of my army could barely scratch the Wraith constructs. The highlight was managing to kill his Wraithknight by turn three. Also the new D Weapon Writhcannons weren't as bad as I thought they would be.
Game 2 was against Blood Angels in Stormravens. The opponent had lots of flamers and I had an infantry army so you can image how well that turned out.
In Game 3 I was fighting a Knight army for the first time and although I only had two models left on the table by the end, it was probably my most enjoyable game of the weekend.
Game 4 was against another Blood Angels army, this time with Drop Pods and two allied Knights. I managed to kill a reasonable amount of his Marines before being wiped out.
My last game was against an Eldar army made up of 2nd Edition and earlier models that were beautifully painted. This was the battle that I had some of the worst luck in my gaming, failing almost all my Leadership tests (even with rerolls), barely making an armour save and causing only three wounds on an Avatar despite shooting half my army at it. It was still an enjoyable game though.
General info on the event: There were quite a few super-heavies but there were surprisingly few fliers compared to previous events. The event was more informal than previously but there were still some power gamers here and there. Most people were still using the books rather than the digital books.
Overall the event was very enjoyable.
I assume it would be heresy for a bunch of Imperial nobles to create their own Astartes chapters?
And who in the Mechanicum actually knows how they're created?
I'm pretty sure that an Imperial nobleman starting his private Space Marine chapter would be viewed in about the same way as the medieval church discovering that someone was keeping a half-dozen high-ranking clerics who had been presumed dead in a very large rabbit hutch and feeding them lettuce.
Impossible. Only the High Lords of Terra can order the founding Astartes Chapter, they are the ones who control the Gene-Seed stores used in the creation.
Alrighty.
good father day to everyone...except the emperor, he probably isn the best father around
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"If it weren't for the Chaos Gods he probably would have been better.
I would just point out that the Mechanicum don't exist any more as they were renamed the Mechanicus after the Heresy and in the 41st Millennium the only time the old term is used is with the Dark Mechanicum.
So, has anyone here tried out Dark Heresy 2nd Edition? Was wondering if it was worth it to drop 70$ on the corebook, figured it was better to post here than nerco the 4 year old thread.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Second Edition caused a Broken Base for a while. But overall the main mechanics in the first edition are still there. I think it's worth a shot!
An Imperial Guardsman, a Space Marine, and an Inquisitor walk into a bar.
The Guardsman says "ow."
The Marine breaks right through the bar with his reinforced skull.
The Inquisitor accuses the bar of heresy. When the bar refuses to confess or even move despite sustained torture, the Inquisitor executes the Guardsman for failing to defeat the bar in combat.
Then the Inquisitor "accidentally" catches a Earthshaker shell. Or "accidentally" stumbles onto a shredder mine trap.
I kinda miss that rule from the old Catachan codex, them fragging the commissar before the battle.

... Shouldn't that be a Commissar instead, then?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I figure Inquisitors are similar in terms of assholeness, generally far worse.
On the other hand, the organisation that sends them is also far worse, and everyone who knows they exist knows they have a fundamental policy of "in an emergency, kill 'em all and let the God-Emperor sort 'em out".
re Space Marine Chapter creation:
While we don't know the specifics, it's generally assumed that it's beyond the power of a rogue Imperial noble, and what's more it requires the tacit support of the Mechanicus, as main geneseed stores are located in the Sol system.

It would however be in character for Fabius Bile to 'help' a rogue noble create a private army. The results just wouldn't be pretty.

Indeed.
It would probably be more realistic (and fitting in how things like this normally go) for it to be a Space Marine chapter long thought lost and on Crusade to the point that there are now thousands of them.
The new Forge World Warlord Titan is awesome.

O.O
Wooooooooow...
Yeah that looks badass, but no like 2 grand badass. I'd rather scratch build my own, to be honest.
