No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Oh boy, I can't wait until Abaddon shows up. Takahata 101 is voicing him XD

Wonder what route they'll take with his character. With the ADB can-do-no-wrong on one hand and the fandom Memetic Loser on the other, it'll be interesting either way.

I hope they dont go all memetic loser on him, that meme is grating me a lot.

Honestly when you line up all his accomplishments and how he's talked up in recent books I get the feeling they're trying a little too hard to remedy it. It just screams "Like this guy! Isn't he such a badass???".

[up]Because that is how is supused to be, nothing in the fluff paint Abbadon as less than threat for the imperium at large, the general faliure is just mostly tg meme.

I'm not really all that fussed about being fair to a fictional supervillain, but "can't smash an empire of a million worlds in a single invasion" hardly seems like something that would make a general a failure, you know?

[up][up] The "is as big as Horus despite being a regular Marine, everything that seemed to have gone wrong in the 12 crusades was actually part of his master plan, the Chaos Gods like him better than anyone else (especially including Horus) and reserve their special benediction for him alone, he's not a puppet of the Chaos Gods and will toss them aside once he gets the Imperium that's rightfully his, wields a daemon sword that's powerful enough to kill the Emperor and obeys only him" bits that get to me.

Don't get me wrong, I've got no problem with the head honcho of the villains being strong, but at some point shit starts to sound like a 12 year old's OC.

[up]He's not as big as Horus, but Abaddon has always been described as massive, even by Marine standards.

The "rules" are pretty suspicious in and of themselves.

  • I don't see them releasing a Primarch with BS 3+ when all of his brothers so far have 2+. Nor can it really be blamed on his supposed corruption by Khorne; another character with a 2+ to hit is Kharn the Betrayer.
  • The item stats include a hellfrag auto-launcher and wulfen claws, neither of which is mentioned in his equipment entry.
  • There are multiple grammatical errors. Einar's Scorn, for example, doesn't read much like a GW weapon entry - they tend not to open sentences with "And", at least in my experience - and there appears to be a space before the full stop in the first sentence of the equipment entry, just under the main statline.

[up]As I said, it is unlikely. Still funny though. I still prefer my personal wild mass guess Russ is Murderfang

The Russ rules seem to have been deemed 100% fake on dakkadakka.

That said, Deamon Russ wouldn't be that huge of a leap. There were rumors some time ago that a traitor would turn loyal and a loyalist would turn traitor.

[up][up] There were apparently rumors that Abaddon was some kind of clone or something of Horus.

The consensus seems to be that the immortality tropes would be generally inappropriate for one.
Even for Giant Chaos Spawn, who are noted to be practically immortal? Or is that covered by Nigh-Invulnerability?

The odds of Leman Russ coming back as a corrupted daemon primarch are near zero. The only people who would like that are the Space Wolves' vocal hatedom.

I don't particularly hate them and I think Russ coming back as a terrifying 7-dimensional mutant wolf monster would be kinda metal. There are probably primarchs who could use that treatment better, though.

I feel it is adequately covered by Nigh-Invulnerability and/or Healing Factor, besides with how time flows for the forces of Chaos, living for a long time isn't too notable.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

As a Christmas gift, Forge World has released the ''Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness'' Rulebook. As this makes 30K an official Gaiden Game does anyone think it should get its own page (I would do it myself but I haven't got involved much in the game myself yet)?

I apologise for the triple post but I would like to get the opinion of people here on an edit to the Astra Militarum page. Today the troper Impudent Infidel deleted an entry of mine with the edit reason of "This is not a thing". The entry was:

  • Deadly Graduation: The final test for a Commissarial cadet before they graduate from the Schola Progenium is to execute their closest friend at the training facility. This test is to ensure that the cadet will not hesitate to execute the troopers he is assigned to watch over as he has already killed someone far more important to him.

Seeing as I took this information from pages 12 and 13 of Codex: Militarum Tempestus I cannot understand how it could not be a thing and would like to ask if this is correct.

EDIT: I PMed the troper on the issue and he replied that he deleted it due to it not being in the novels or RPGs and he had only read it in a fan fluff bible. He hasn't added the entry back as of writing this so, as I took it from a 6th/7th Edition Codex, would it be classed as an edit war if I put it back?
