No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

I know this is from two weeks ago, but it's too cool not to share:
that is also totally the Black Night riff :P
advancing the front into TV TropesSpeaking of Forgeworld:
Now I'm wondering: Next time my FLGS does a group order, should I get some Nurgle stuff from Forgeworld? Hmm....
I was thinking of getting the Death Guard Rhino Doors, Land Raider Doors, one or two of the Conversion set and the Legion Heads and Torsos. I'm not too sure about the Terminator Conversion set, because of the new Blightlord terminators coming out.
I'm also not too sure if I'd get Mamon or Cor'bax Utterblight, Daemon Prince of the Ruinstorm.

I've updated Typhus' pic on the Chaos Marines page to the new model. I also commented out his Made of Iron entry as it's not written with his 8th edition rules.
What do you mean by "not written with his 8th edition rules"? Are we supposed to only list tropes that apply to current game rules of the characters?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Entries should be written from a time neutral perspective and where they refer to rules from specific editions the edition should be noted rather than using turns like currently or simply stating the rule.

Correct. If his 8th edition rules still make him fit the trope, then the entry should be rewritten to match those stats. If not, then the entry should be stricken outright or edited to note that those rules apply to 7th edition.
Typhus in 8th does have T5, W6 and a 2+/4++/5+++, so he probably does count.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.He's not any tougher than the Lord of Contagion though.
They're Nurglites, all of them are tough as nails.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Yeah. The ENTIRE Death Guard faction is Made of Iron.
You could move the entry for Made of Iron to the Death Guard section in general and just note that the entire faction is notable for it.
Fun fact: it takes over 23 lascannon hits to kill Mortarion on average, and he can give himself a -1 to hit.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I was wondering why Made of Iron was on Typhus' entry and not the entire Legions where it would be more appropriate. I will see about changing the entry when I have time tomorrow.
Math is fairly close, assuming Typhus gets Miasma of pestilence.
Assuming hitting on 4+ (3+ weapon with miasma of pestilence on him)
50% chance to hit (4+)
67% chance to wound (S9 Lascannon vs T5 Typhus)
50% to bypass Typhus 4++ invulnerable save.
Lascannon does d6 damage. Average is 3.5.
Typhus gets a 5+++ disgustingly resilient per wound.
24 lascannons (rounding up)
12 hit
8 wound
4 are saved
Average of 14 wounds
He'll make about 4-5 disgustingly resilient saves.
Taking 10 wounds.
Adding the new Death Guard apothecary guy to allow rerolling 1s on Disgustingly Resilient saves wouldn't save him (of his 10 failed disgustingly resilient saves, only 2 would be rerollable and he might save an extra wound from the reroll - still taking 9 then), although it might make the difference on 23 shots instead of 24.
50 man Conscript blob with a Commissar, Officer, and FRSR, Typhus is dead (even better if you add in a spotlight sabre weapons battery, Conscripts hitting on 4's? Yes please!)
advancing the front into TV Tropes I was mentioning Mortarion, not Typhus. And those are assumed hits, of which Typhus takes 7.7 on average. Funnily enough, his saves equal Mortarion's and Typhus' T5 is worth exactly as much as Mortarion's T7 against S9 lascannons under 8th ed rules, so it's Mortarion's triple amount of wounds that makes the difference. Then again, Typhus can't be targeted unless by snipers, and I'm not gonna bother with the math but Typhus' equivalent points in snipers probably can't kill him in five turns of shooting.
That's 200 shots in RF range, right? One third hit, one third wound, one sixth get past his save, two thirds get past his DR. Which comes out to just under two and a half wounds. Yep, the dude's Made of Iron. (Also, if he casts Miasma of Pestilence or Putrescent Vitality on himself that goes down to 1.2 wounds, and if both that's 0.6. Mathammer is fun.)

Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.How to counter hordes:
- Be able to chew up and spit out all the gunfire they can put out
- There is no step 2
Alternatively, counterhorde. From what I've heard, the most cost-effective way to deal with hordes is to bring a big squad of killy melee infantry like Genestealers or Berzerkers and make sure to get the charge.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Or play Death Guard
That's not an "or", that's just step 1 with specifics.
Fair point
Speaking of Death Guard: In preparation for getting my Death Guard on Wednesday, I've started kitbashing a Plague Contemptornote . I've started with all the Chaos-y bits, then I'll magnetize the gun-arm so I can switch it from being Assault Cannon, Multi-Melta or a Plasma Cannon.note and then greenstuff up a LOT of Nurgly goodness,

I've been thinking of getting some Grey Knights as auxiliaries for my Blood Ravens, Dawn of War 1-style.
Trying to figure out what I want to get. I'm thinking of picking up the Triumvirate of the Imperium either way for Rowboat Growlyman, so Voldus is a good shout. Maybe a squad of Terminators to go with him?
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Do you guys think it would be plausible for your average Imperial Guard generals and other high-ranking, non-regiment-specific officers to treat some IG regiments differently from others? Like, while they may have a We Have Reserves attitude to the vast bulk of run-of-the-mill regiments they may have under their command, he'd treat ones from worlds with an outstanding reputation for producing very good troops, such as the Cadian Shock Troops or the Armageddon Steel Legion, as valuable assets that should never be squandered without a damn good reason?
