No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

So, I'm currently struggling with coming up with a paint scheme for my Primaris marines.
Specifically, the Primaris Ancient, and technically by extension, the Veterans for my chapter.
My homebrew chapter's colour-scheme uses the same scheme as the Custodes that was posted on WarhammerTV. And I don't think straight white would look good on that colour-scheme. Maybe making the helmet purely silver like a Grey Knight's?

In 2nd Ed. any passenger could take the place of dead crew at the beginning of the turn, counting as a crew member with the passenger's stats and equipment from then on. Of course in 2nd Ed. crew could leave a vehicle if they wanted too so a Nob who took control could bring the bike to a stop and then disembark, leaving the crewless bike on its own.
I believe one painting guide in the past that I read said that in heraldry (both in real life and 40K) white and silver are interchangeable to some extent so that would definitely work.
I am wondering how to paint my Primaris as well. I am currently torn between my Black Wings◊, my Scythes of the Emperor◊, my planned Silver Skulls and one of the new Primaris Chapters once I get Dark Millennium and see their colour schemes.
But that is quite helpful, yes.
Unfortunately, I'll still need to get Index Imperium 1 and 2 because I have Space Marines, but also Talons of the Emperor

The main downside of collecting everything like I do is that when things like this get released I have to get everything, meaning my bank balance is taking a bit of a hit a week before going on holiday. Which is unfortunate.
I guess I'm the odd man out for just liking Dark Angels. Where I imagine the words "Primaris Marines" are synonymous with "front lines cannon fodder".
Nah. Primaris Marines for Dark Angels are pretty sweet.
I mean that in the fluffy "these outsiders can never know our secret and we can never trust them" kind of way.
I'm having a similar problem only in regards to the Death guard models. I do like the stranded paint scheme, but I was learning towards something like the Lords of Decay
The problem I have with my Death Guard plans is a little different, namely that my Nurgle colour scheme was created a while ago using the older paints that I have since run out of and I cannot remember which ones I used so can't look them up on the conversion chart to see what the modern equivalents are.
at the very least it looks like Caliban green for the armour
advancing the front into TV TropesI like the aesthetic of the Dark Angels but they have really shitty attitudes.
Could be but I don't think it was as deep as that. I think it was the old Catachan Green paint, which would make Castellan Green the modern equivalent. I do know I put a brown wash over the top. I will have to test some things on some spare arms from my bitz box once I have finished off the couple of things I am currently working on.
test out a couple of greens with an Angrax wash on spare bits then, sounds like a solid plan
advancing the front into TV TropesAfter watching the new painting videos from GW on the Lord of Contagion and a Poxwalker, I'm very tempted to not immediately sell or trade their sprues from the box set but build and paint them then try to sell them that way.
so the new If The Emperor Had a Text To Speech Device episode is out.... and I damn well have a credit in it! "Lore Consultant" (fanboys internally)

advancing the front into TV Tropes
Don't watch TTS, but congrats!
I highly recommend you watch it....
advancing the front into TV TropesExcellent, will watch it later once I get home.
Nice. Episode was great by the way.
Yeah. That said, I don't want to be that guy, but... we do have a dedicated thread for TTS. Just saying.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Games Workshop has made the basic Core Rules of 8th Edition available for PDF download.

Our FLGS has a rewards plan where If you spend over $35 on a purchase, you get a stamp on a card that, when it's full, you can trade in for value toward another purchase. I used one over the weekend to get the Imperial 2 and Xenos 1 indexes, the wound trackers, and a brush in addition to the stuff I preordered, so all in all it was a hefty snag. Spent most of the weekend when we were at home putting together the Primaris Marines...they're fairly easy to build but I'm sure I've missed a ton of mould lines. I'm going to experiment with lava bases before starting to paint them.
I look forward to seeing pics of the results of your experiments, lava bases are something I have wanted to try for a while.
I'm waiting for my copy of Dark Millennium and the Index books to turn up but I got my Forge World Astartes and Chaos books today (quite interesting although I am a little disappointed that the Mortis Dreadnought is now just a Dreadnought with two sets of heavy weapons). Even when I do get them though I probably won't be able to paint the Primaris Marines (I have decided to paint them as Scythes of the Emperor) right away as I need to finish off my Blood Bowl Orcs for an event in August and I am going on holiday next week.
They do say that there is no such thing as originality. It is a little amusing that your nob almost has the same pose of the old one though
