No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

... Say, how do you think Duke Nukem would fare if he was dropped into the WH40K-verse?

He would die immediately.
So before I even start working on figuring out a conversion, I gotta ask: Does anyone know off the top of their head if the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend is using the same size base as the Toxicrene/Malaceptor?
They look to me to be about the same size base, but I'm not sure. The Toxicrene/Malaceptor is on a large oval base if that helps
Edit: Nevermind, I just found out that, yes, the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend and Toxicrene/Malaceptor models both use the 120x92 mm large oval base. That means I can go full steam ahead to making the Forge/Maulerfiend with the Toxicrene body I have

I'd consider it a very light Hover Tank given its possible weapon loadouts.
Speaking of Hover Tank, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to use a pic that we can pothole to a work, such as this◊ pic of Wave Serpents?

I say it'd be better, yeah. And have the current one be one of the image links for Hover Tank. Bring it up on the Image Pickin' thread?

I'll bring it up shortly, I'm working on some other thread ideas along with that one.

Thanks, that was what I was leaning towards. As for the pic, the Eldar one is cool.
And yes, I still stand by my conviction that the Devastator Weapon is exactly like dual-wielding storm bolters.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I think a Land Speeder would essentially be a Jeep with a 50-caliber gun for Space Marines. Lightly armored, fast, and has a big gun or two.
Any advice on how to counter Ravenwing DA with Gunline Guard? Should I upgrade my Heavy Weapons teams to squads in their own right? Add some obstacles?
edited 31st Jan '17 8:12:00 AM by SantosLHalper
Obstacles, probably not; Ravenwing have Skilled Rider so ignore dangerous terrain checks. Ignoring cover through orders and special weapons would probably be the way to go, so buffing your heavy weapons teams wouldn't be a bad option (maybe some Hellhounds or Wyverns to support)
Already have a couple of Wyverns. What about Bane Wolves?
That'd probably work well too. Anything to deny their cover and/or armor saves.
Question: Is it worth giving the Khorne Berzerkers chainaxes, or is it a waste of points unless you know the enemy is going to be using lots of armored units?
I thought that would have been their starting weapon. What do they start with, then?
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Chainswords
I always do, but then I don't care about battlefield effectiveness and choose my armies based on fluff and models I like.
Chainswords. All members of a Khorne Berzerker squad can upgrade to a Chainaxe for 3 pints per model.
Edit:
Ah, okay.
Also, regarding the Chaos Lord that I'll be getting when I get the Start Collecting: Chaos Space Marines, what'd be better for an all-rounder (compared to Kharn's Melee Monster) build? I'm thinking Chainfist/Power Sword (hellblade?) and Combi-melter/flamer
edited 31st Jan '17 10:16:32 AM by BlackSunNocturne
You could also go power/chain fist and lightning claw.
Forgoing range is an option for an all-rounder?
It's an "all-rounder" in that it can rip through all targets in melee.
I get what you mean, but I was asking specifically regarding a counterpart to Kharn. 'sides, if I make the Terminator Chaos Lord a melee build, there's something about the Power-sword/Power axe combo.
Though, I need to ask: why specifically a Power/Chainfist and Lightning Claw?
Power Fists/Chainfist wreck tanks while Lightning Claws wreck infantry
Ahhh, okay.
So I'm converting the Toxicrene/Maleceptor model into a Daemon Engine. I'm wondering this: Which is better, Maulerfiend or Forgefiend?
Because, I can easily make the former because of the Toxicrene's lasher tentacles, but I'd have to do some extra finagling to make the latter.
Be careful. The cost of Havoc squads can easily go up very quickly, and while this edition is very heavy on firepower, you want squads that are mobile, too. Havocs are good for sitting on a back line and shooting things, but they're not gonna take objectives, and taking objectives wins you the game.
I'd say 1-2 squads for a given game.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.
