This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Huh... I guess "God(s) Work(s) In Mysterious Ways" is such an ingrained concept that Thrym's evasiveness never really stuck out to me as a plot hook, but yeah, no reason it shouldn't be.
EDIT: And the fact that the only demigod who refused to explain their motives is the first one to send Mooks after the PCs is pretty suggestive, Law of Conservation of Detail-wise.

1078: But If You Try Sometimes
... I did not see that coming.
Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreYou can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes,
well you might find
You get what you need

And, knowing is half the inner battle either won or wasted... Not sure which.

Oh, no. That is just plain hilarious. And such a subversion. We all thought we were going to get yet another stupid fetch mission. Little did we know.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It occurs to me that, while I can't speak for anything earlier, what Roy just did is a feature of Fighters in 5th Edition. Specifically the Eldtritch Knight subclass has an ability that, iirc, lets them bond with a weapon and summon to their hand as a bonus action. Doubt it's intentional (at least not the 5e one) but it also fits with Roy's above average Intelligence.
Hey, no throwing swords around! You could take someone's eye out.
"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusI think I like Roy's reaction more than what actually happened.
Actually, I did figure this is where the conversation on the last page was going. :P
^^^ "Weapon Bond
At 3rd level, you learn a ritual that creates a magical bond between yourself and one weapon. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest. The weapon must be within your reach throughout the ritual, at the conclusion of which you touch the weapon and forge the bond.
Once you have bonded a weapon to yourself, you can't be disarmed of that weapon unless you are incapacitated. If it is on the same plane of existence, you can summon that weapon as a bonus action on your turn, causing it to teleport instantly to your hand.
You can have up to two bonded weapons, but can summon only one at a time with your bonus action. If you attempt to bond with a third weapon, you must break the bond with one of the other two."
5e OotS would have saved Roy a lot of headaches. :P

What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers.Look, he got himself a Keyblade.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Well that solves a problem that's hurt Roy several times in the past.
I did not see that coming.
I actually did see this coming, but I looked it up, and didn't think it was possible in this setting, so I didn't say anything.
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Fucking kick-ass. Love how he immediately tests it out to double check.
Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority.Gotta love upgraded legacy weapons of starmetal, baby.
I haven't laughed this hard at this comic in a long time.
So Roy's sword is now a Keyblade. Cool.
I'm just glad there was a plot-related reason for his losing it again.
How long until he realises he's got his ranged attack?
I think he already has realised.
I'm not clear on the mechanics of sword throwing, but I imagine Roy would be pretty skilled at it already given his amazing stats?
I suspect there will be some more solitary training in his future. Except, he may have to borrow Haley's range of targets.
Throwing Your Sword Always Works... *cough* Swords are not designed to be thrown and so are treated as an improvised throwing weapon, suffering a -4 attack penalty. As far as I know, though, it'd do the same damage as it would in melee, which is pretty sweet. Roy'd only get a single attack per round with it, not the three to four he earns with his current base attack bonus, so it's pretty inefficient. It is, however, better than standing around doing nothing.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I want Roy to spam chucking his sword each round and missing just so that a flying Xykon or someone can have a moment where he stops and is like, "Okay, why and how does the same sword keep getting thrown at me?"

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.
But that doesn't explain said (demi)god's motivations. They were kept conspicuously unknown.
