YMMV / Yosuga no Sora

  • 8.8: A rare anime variation: following AnimeNewsNetwork blasting the likes of the semi-incestuous Kiss X Sis, viewers called out the reviewers for citing them as "incest-practitioners/supporters". When it came time for Yosuga no Sora months after their Kiss X Sis review, the anti-incest comments were toned down.
  • Accidental Innuendo: Sora provides an example of this in episode 8; "This is no good, I wanted your curry, Haru!"
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming:
    • Akira and Kazuha's father revealed to have cared about the former all along, and the latter is finally learning to accept her father.
    • Likewise, Kazuha's mother apologizing for having neglected Akira's feelings for so long.
  • Cliché Storm: Even relatively original Sora's arc full of cliche, like Sibling Triangle or Conveniently an Orphan.
  • Ear Worm: The omake's ED song, "Pinky Jones" by Momoiro Clover Z.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The Brother-Sister Incest is the only appealing thing about this series for most. It seems that even the authors themselves are not interested in anything else in the novel, except that Akira.
  • Les Yay: Before The Reveal about Kazuha and Akira's relationship as sisters, Haruka finds himself fantasizing about the two of them as lovers. Kazuha is revolted when she realizes that's what he thinks. But significantly, Akira is willing to force a fairly passionate kiss on her in order to make a point ...
  • Moe: Applies to most of the girls, but Sora and Akira are the best contenders.
  • Memetic Mutation: Intimate scenes between the twins and Haru himself in particular, have become widely popular in anime fandom as a base for jokes on the theme of incest and sexual relations with native sisters.
  • Signature Scene: The scene where Kozue and Nao finding out about Haruka and Sora's incestuous relationship (in the VN/manga)/walking in on Haruka and Sora having sex (in the anime).
  • Trope Codifier \ Trope Makers: Yosuga no Sora is considered a pioneer in the field of twincest stories and good example of the incest-titles, in spite of the above-mentioned strong enough Cliché Storm. In the future, the authors of the original novel created a separate brand Cube, dedicated almost exclusively to romantic relationships between twins.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Like many imouto or incest-tiles, Yosuga no Sora has been criticized for the heavy romanticization of incestuous relationships, as well as the growing stereotype of the romantic nature of the relationship between twins, because of which anime adaptation has even been separately considered by Japanese officials because of the accusation of "depicting incest as a socially acceptable act", but subsequent charges were dropped. Blurred morality, which some viewers perceive as the approval of any taboo relationship, can also be added here.
