YMMV / Yosuga no Sora

  • 8.8: A rare anime variation: following Anime News Network blasting the likes of the semi-incestuous kiss×sis, viewers called out the reviewers for citing them as "incest-practitioners/supporters". When it came time for Yosuga no Sora months after their kiss×sis review, the anti-incest comments were toned down.
  • Accidental Innuendo: Sora provides an example of this in episode 8; "This is no good, I wanted your curry, Haru!"
  • Adaptation Displacement: Is justified for a Western audience, since the original novel was never translated into English, and many got to know this work through anime.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Twins are just single children who start immoral relationships because of hard life and the lack of parents, or are they Loveable Sex Maniac, for whom sexual activity is also easy as brushing your teeth? For example, during all this time, we do not see any other manifestation of Sora's romantic feelings, except obsessive desire to have sex with her brother. The arched structure of adaptation also does not help, because of which, many mistakenly saw Haruka as a Really Gets Around and simply did not believe his final words that he loved only Sora.
  • Critical Dissonance: Anime adaptation failed and was generally appreciated by critics as a "vulgar version of Amagami SS". At the same time, since this work has received the status of Cult Classic among imouto-titles and is considered one of the exemplary works on the theme Twincest and Brother–Sister Incest in general.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming:
    • Akira and Kazuha's father revealed to have cared about the former all along, and the latter is finally learning to accept her father.
    • Likewise, Kazuha's mother apologizing for having neglected Akira's feelings for so long.
  • Cliché Storm: Even relatively original Sora's arc full of cliche, like Sibling Triangle or Conveniently an Orphan.
  • Ear Worm: The omake's ED song, "Pinky Jones" by Momoiro Clover Z.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The Brother–Sister Incest is the only appealing thing about this series for most. It seems that even the authors themselves are not interested in anything else in the novel, except that Akira.
  • Les Yay: Before The Reveal about Kazuha and Akira's relationship as sisters, Haruka finds himself fantasizing about the two of them as lovers. Kazuha is revolted when she realizes that's what he thinks. But significantly, Akira is willing to force a fairly passionate kiss on her in order to make a point ...
  • Moe: Applies to most of the girls, but Sora and Akira are the best contenders.
  • Memetic Mutation: Intimate scenes between the twins and Haru himself in particular, have become widely popular in anime fandom as a base for jokes on the theme of incest and sexual relations with native sisters.
  • Fanon: Despite the fact that few people read the continuation of the original novel, among fans it is widely believed that the twins somehow got married in the final analysis because of the existence of CG where the happy Sora admires the ring on her ring finger. Or even that Sora is waiting for their first child. At the same time, this can only be a "game" on the flea market, that can be guessed because of the counter with the dishes to her left.
  • Scrappy: You either hate Sora, seeing her as incestuous and selfish Jerkass, or hate all the other girls, since the show spends too much time on them, but does not endow them with any personality.
  • Signature Scene: The scene where Kozue and Nao finding out about Haruka and Sora's incestuous relationship (in the VN/manga)/walking in on Haruka and Sora having sex (in the anime).
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: many fans are sure that the arcs system was not the best solution, and the adaptation could become much better, deeper and dramatic than the final Porn with Plot, if story was initially completely concentrated only on the arch of Sora and the experiences of twins.
  • Trope Codifier \ Trope Makers: Yosuga no Sora is considered a pioneer in the field of twincest stories and good example of the incest-titles, in spite of the above-mentioned strong enough Cliché Storm. It reaches such a level that even now it is difficult to say something new in this topic, which was not in Yosuga no Sora, and the new twincest-eroge only play with Twin Switch and the number of twin sisters.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Like many imouto or incest-tiles, Yosuga no Sora has been criticized for the heavy romanticization of incestuous relationships, as well as the growing stereotype of the romantic nature of the relationship between twins, because of which anime adaptation has even been separately considered by Japanese officials because of the accusation of "depicting incest as a socially acceptable act", but subsequent charges were dropped. Blurred morality, which some viewers perceive as the approval of any taboo relationship, can also be added here.
  • Watch It for the Meme: If you watch this series now, then you probably decided to do it because of incestuous demotivators.
