• Americans Hate Tingle: In Russia, where Hans Christian Andersen's original fairytale is a time-honored classic, this adaptation is revered as a groundbreaker for modern Russian animation, earning widespread acclaim and spawning an ongoing franchise. In America and Western Europe however, it's seen in a negative light against Disney's Frozen (2013), sitting at a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and not faring much better on IMDB.
• Common Knowledge: Average viewers will often see this film on the direct-to-DVD section of any store and think of it as a Frozen (2013) rip-off, when in reality the film came out a year before Frozen and got a theatrical release in its country of origin. It also follows the original story much closer than the Disney adaptation.
• Contested Sequel: There's some debate over whether The Snow Queen 2 is better or worse than the first film.
• Just Here for Godzilla: Gerda is often the reason most people will see the movies.
• Moral Event Horizon: The Housemaster burning Kai's paintings and paintbrushes. Orm uses this as a catalyst to trick Kai into leaving.
• Nightmare Fuel: The opening, where Gerda and Kai's father is chased by the North Wind, which freezes an entire city over in its search for him. It soon catches up to him and freezes him and his wife, killing them and turning therm into ice statues.
