YMMV / The Haunted House: The Secret of the Ghost Ball

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel: ALL of the ghosts!
    • Gaun's possession in "The Unbreakable Curse of the Girl's Hair". First, Gaeun screams psychotically, then her hair overtakes her body and floods throughout the classroom. It’s almost like a takeover…
      • The ghost’s backstory is this mixed with Tear Jerker. As it turns out, she was Gaeun’s sister who defended her from bullies. When the bullies toss the hat that she gave Gaeun off of a bridge, she jumps to catch it and succeeds… But also falls off the bridge, right in front of Gaeun. No wonder the poor girl was so quiet at the start of episode.
    • The Ghost Bus is completely horrifying; it's a bus that abducts people, they are trapped in a pitch-black Bigger on the Inside version of the bus' interior filled with screaming, red-eyed ghosts with distorted faces desperately clawing at them. Then there is the reason for the ghost's existence: They are the victims of a horrible crash that killed everyone except the driver. This is shown when the crash repeats itself, and the ghosts claw at the door begging to be let out before the bus falls from the bridge. When the ghosts are finally released from their torment, their number is explicitly shown to include children and even babies
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The series is about two siblings and a friendly goblin who catch various kinds of ghosts in every episode, sometimes accompanied with their two classmates as well. Many of the ghosts they meet are incredibly scary, there's a chunk of Body Horror here and there, as well as a batch of Nightmare Fuel, and some of the ghosts are grotesque Humanoid Abomination. Plus, some of the ghosts' backstories are quite depressing. Despite all this, the show is aimed at a child audience.
  • Values Dissonance: The fact that Hari and Doori's mother has a different surname from her husband and children (their family name is Koo, hers is Yoo) - in Korea most women don't change their names when they get married so this is quite normal, but it can be a bit confusing to Western audiences.
