YMMV / Team Neighborhood

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtracks are used very well, and really enhance each scene.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • In Cable Calamity, both the BLU Scout and BLU Spy are the only members of the team watching actual porn. When you know that the Scout and the Spy are related in canon, this becomes a rather funny example of Like Father, Like Son.
    • In Pool Fools, at one point in this episode, there was an actual shark in the RED Team's pool, which the RED Scout assumed was Pyro pranking him again as a shark in this episode. How did it get there? Well, if you take a closer look, it's a Tibetan Land Shark and even uses the same model as Frank.
    • The RED Scout being knowledgeable about leg injuries comes from the fact that the Scout is the fastest class in TF2. Leg injuries can affect the speed you may run, so having that knowledge on legs is key for track runners.
    • Pyro is assigned to be the RED Team's ballistics expert in the snowball fight which at first seems like random silliness, but then you realize that Pyro, with the ability to send projectiles back to their sources, must have a wealth of knowledge in the field to be effective. Plus, all their weapons are homemade hints at a great understanding of weapon construction that Demoman lacked.
  • Growing the Beard: The first episode, The Grill, is fairly straightforward, and can end up feeling like a fairly stock GMod machinima. Cable Calamity and Pool Fools, however, boast a significant increase in production values (such as more voice acting, to get around the limitations of spliced audio), and get much more creative with the writing. It only continues getting better and better with the Bush Beaters.
  • Nausea Fuel: Fortunately we don't get to see it, but in Pool Fools, the BLU Team hides in the crate to try to infiltrate the RED Team, and because there are no air holes and it's 100°F, by the time the RED Medic opens it, they have all turned into rotten corpses.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Bush Beaters opens with a nightmare, which reveals that the flashbacks from previous episodes were shared memories of an actual incident. BLU Team used some absurd cheats to score a victory against the RED Team in a Badwater match, and while their tactics are very silly, the presentation of how much damage they cause makes the scene a lot more intense than you'd expect. It's all viewed from the blurry, shaky first-person perspective of the RED Sniper as he navigates past BLU's explosions and desperately defends the objective to his last breath. All of this, combined with the droning background music, leaves the viewer empathizing with his terrified point of view.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Moments with Heavy, which Team Neighborhood takes a lot of influences from, starting from following and expanding on the concept of following the Team Fortress 2 classes in Slice of Life adventures punctuated by Surreal Humor and a generous dose of Mundane Made Awesome. As a bonus, Cable Calamity reveals through BLU Soldier's thought bubble that Moments With Heavy - Movie Night is canon to this series!
  • Squick: BLU Pyro piercing his own suit to let his sweat spill out in Pool Fools.
