YMMV / Stalked By My Doctor

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • Dr. Beck's fantasy scenes count, particularly since the actresses playing his crushes completely switch characterizations to fit Beck's conception of them.
    • The La La Land inspired musical sequence in Patient's Revenge was blatantly intended to be a "what did I just watch?" moment. Even if you know it's coming it still leaves you shaking your head, if nothing else at the sight of Eric Roberts, of all people, doing some singing and peppy dancing.
    • The "Laid Back Beck" hallucinations, particularly with Roberts taking the character up to eleven, insulting Beck with names like Schmuckface and Dumbass.
    • In A Sleepwalker's Nightmare, Beck in the bathroom using toiletry items to roleplay what he perceives as Katie's sluttiness, complete with goofy voices, a scene many viewers have likened to Bob's Burgers.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: With his delusions and hallucinations, Dr. Beck seems to have a pretty deep case of schizophrenia, but it's never specifically labeled as such.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Eric Roberts is so oddly compelling and charismatic as Dr. Beck, it's easy to brush aside his being a sexually deviant murderer.
  • Ham and Cheese:
    • Eric Roberts, who's typically hammy even when he tries to play things straight, is allowed to cut loose as Dr. Beck and totally commits himself to the deranged character, leading to a number of priceless moments throughout the series.
    • A lot of the charm of the series is that you have a lead actor who's well-aware that he's starring in a Live-Action Cartoon, while the rest of the cast is acting like it's just another melodramatic Lifetime movie. But a few of the other performers also have some fun in their roles. Brianna Joy Chomer as Sophie Green mostly just expresses shock and repulsion in the first film in her dealings with Beck, but as fantasy Sophie she dials it way up to convey Beck's idea of Sophie as a lustful girl just itching to get away from her controlling parents and dumb boyfriend. For Patient's Revenge Sophie suddenly becomes a furious Emo Teen who matches Beck toe-for-toe when it comes to scenery chewing and shouting. In A Sleepwalker's Nightmare, Emilie Ullerup as Michelle suddenly goes from Damsel in Distress to Action Girl, while Angeline Appel plays Katie as the ultimate wide-eyed Ingenue. In Just What the Doctor Ordered, Adrian Eppley fully commits to Gail as both a kinkster and an intense Olivia Benson wannabe.
  • Narm: This is pretty much Narm: The Franchise in regards to Dr. Beck. Every movie gives him some truly bizarre moments.
    • The original famously has him use "I'M UNFRIENDING YOU!" as his parting shot as his date flees him, and the "I AM A DOCTOR!" breakdown in the alley after Sophie rejects him. Another notorious moment has him fondling one of Sophie's American Girls dolls and sniffing its clothes!
    • In The Return, his twisted obsession with Amy is shown via Beck making pancakes for breakfast that spell out "AMY".
    • A minor example. In the first two movies, the heroine's boyfriend plays on the school soccer team. Both teams wear the exact same red-and-black jersey. Noticeable because the jersey includes a horizontal black zigzag that makes it resemble Charlie Brown's shirt.
  • Spiritual Successor: The twin 2021 Lifetime movies Deceived by My Mother-In-Law and Mommy's Deadly Con Artist seem like an attempt to start a new franchise with a Distaff Counterpart to Dr. Beck, a wily sixtysomething Bitch in Sheep's Clothing Con Artist played by Dey Young (best-known as Kate Rambeau in Rock 'n' Roll High School). This was emphasized when Eric Roberts showed up, as a doctor, in Mommy's Deadly Con Artist.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Gail in Just What the Doctor Ordered is shown following Dr. Beck/"Nurse McCoy" at one point. Even as a police detective, this seems a little odd, and the idea of Beck attracting his own deranged stalker is full of intriguing possibilities, but sort of gets tossed aside.
