YMMV / Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Keeping with how all blatantly Japanese names were given similar-meaning English equivalents in the official translation, Succyun was given two different potential variants for her name. The manga translation got the idea across by naming her "Bussy"... which also happens to be a sexual slang term (it's short for "boy pussy", AKA the male butthole in reference to penetrative sex). Likely due to the anime translators realizing what the original translation could be taken as, she's the only character to get a different English name for the anime (where she's called "Cubey" instead).
  • Awesome Moments:
    • In the episode where the Princess needs to make her panties, everyone is quickly convinced that she's making a weapon of mass destruction, thus leading to the entire fucking castle going on high alert until they find the panties that she made. Also doubles as a funny moment.
    • In Episode 10 the Princess shows that if she wanted to she could escape the Demon Castle completely but chooses not to.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Princess Aurora. She is a crafty Genius Ditz who won't let anything stand in her way of a good night's sleep.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: The Princess often ignores attempts to converse with her, and when she responds she tends to be extremely blunt and literal. She also has much difficulty telling people apart, relying on clothes or very distinct physical characteristics, such as spines or fur, to differentiate between them.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With 'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess, another series about a captive princess and her surprisingly friendly captors, but with a complete 180 in the princesses's personalities.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Prior to the anime adaptation's first airing, Inori Minase's character Rem was put into a comatose state.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The Princess has a strong bear Animal Motif, later creates a onesie pajama suit designed to look like a Teddy Demon, and when she gets summoned to the starting RPG area by the Teddy Demons' "summon help" ability, she utterly curbstomps the starting adventurers. When the manga got an anime adaptation, it aired in the same season as the anime adaptation of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, a light novel where the protagonist having a bear Animal Motif, wearing a bear-designed onesie outfit, and utterly curbstomping other adventurers is the entire story premise. note
  • Memetic Mutation: Paraphrasing Rorschach's "You're locked up in here with me" Badass Boast to sum up Princess Aurora's situation in the Demon Castle.
  • Moe: The Teddy Demons. Adorable sentient teddy bears. Moe barely begins to cover them.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The triumphant sounding fanfare whenever the Princess successfully completes a quest, followed by a compliment from the narrator.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: A clear example of this is when it comes to the Demon Cleric. A lot of manga readers were upset at the changes that the anime made when it came to his Stalker with a Crush tendencies towards the Princess (amongst some other changes), worried that if a second season ever comes to fruition, the changes would lead to multiple plot holes relating to future plot developments.
  • Unconventional Learning Experience: While most things the Princess does crosses Don't Try This at Home, the series can be subtly educational regarding the topic of sleep health and making of a comfortable bedding.
  • Woolseyism: The official English translation gives Dub Name Changes to all the characters, especially the ones without obvious English meanings. Said translation goes out of its way to have all the names be as close to the original Japanese as possible meaning-wise while still sounding proper. It occasionally falters, such as the Accidental Innuendo for Succyun that resulted in a second name change for the anime, but for the most part the translator does a decent job getting the original intent across.
