YMMV / Ready Jet Go! Space Camp

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop:
  • Adorkable: Stella has some cute, dorky moments, particularly when she's fangirling over the Great Galacto or when she's trying to hide her alien identity.
  • Awesome Art: The movie looks gorgeous, due to having a much bigger budget than the main series. The lighting is colorful, the character movements are bouncy and expressive (even adding slight movements to things like hair and clothing), and the trees and plants look realistic.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Jet doesn't ever use his shrink ray, invented in "Jet Shrinks the Kids," in reverse to cure Sunspot. This makes sense. In that episode, Jet and the gang got shrunk by the ray and got back to normal size by the ray. In this movie, Sunspot started shrinking as a result of an allergic reaction, so the shrink ray would not work to get him back to normal.
    • In Back to Bortron 7, the Propulsions use the mothership (the house) to travel to Bortron 7. But in this movie, Carrot and Celery go to Bortron 7 using the family saucer. They didn't use the mothership this time because they were only there for a few hours for a seminar. In Back to Bortron 7, they used the mothership because they were staying on Bortron 7 for the weekend.
  • He Really Can Act: All of the voice acting performances are at their best, and Ashleigh Ball's portrayal of Jet deserves a special mention. Jet is normally an optimistic, happy-go-lucky character, but in the movie, Ball gives him a wider range of emotions, such as anger (when he gets mad at Stella for running off with Sean's flashlight), fear (when he found out about Sunspot's illness), and sadness (his Despair Event Horizon). When Jet thought he lost Sunspot and screams out his name, you can hear the absolute anguish in his voice. His subsequent sobbing and Despair Speech is just heartbreaking.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: There was no way that Jet and co. were going to get sucked inside the black hole, especially since they're the main characters, they have Plot Armor, this movie is aimed at small children, and there's still 30 minutes left to go. Obviously, they get past the black hole and survive.
  • Salvaged Story:
    • Some fans expressed grievances at Face 9000 getting shafted in season 2 of the main series. However, he plays a major role in the movie, which pleased his fans.
    • Mindy became divisive over time for being a Spotlight-Stealing Squad while not getting much development. In the movie, she has the same amount of screen time as everyone else, and experiences Character Development by being proud of her small size, which helped make her generally liked again.
  • Squick:
    • At one point, the space monster licks Sean, and gets his purple saliva all over him.
    • Later, everyone In-Universe is grossed out when Stella retrieves drinking water...from a tank.
Sean: Ew. We swam in there.
    (everyone gags)
  • Tear Dryer: Jet falls into despair when he thinks that Sunspot is gone for good. Then, it turns out that Sunspot was just hiding under the water bottle cap. Sean, Sydney, and Mindy find Jet inside the cave, and assure them that they're here to help him because they're his friends. Then they all share a Group Hug, making this sad moment into a heartwarming one.
  • Ugly Cute: The space monster isn't easy on the eyes at first, but he's a Non-Malicious Monster and he is kinda cute with his bunny ears and caterpillar-like body.
  • The Woobie: Jet and Sunspot both. Jet just wanted to be a hero like the Great Galacto, but his comet-surfing shenanigans triggered Sunspot's allergies, causing him to shrink. Jet thinks that everything is his fault, and that his best friend/"brother from another Sunspot mother" is gone for good. At one point, he even falls into a Despair Event Horizon, which is shocking because of his usual optimistic and cheerful nature. Luckily, everything turns out okay in the end.
