YMMV / Rat Movie: Mystery of the Mayan Treasure

Go To

  • Awesome Animation: The Reanimated video has several stand-out sequences. Of particular note is PluffyFX's 3D animation of Dick and Barry talking, Toothpaste's depiction of Gerrard's Failed Attempt at Drama (which makes Gerrard look genuinely badass until the Giant Rat picks him up), and multiple sequences from the "Rat Cafe".
  • Awesome Music: Jerma makes surprisingly good use of stock music for both of the rats' songs, managing to make them both very memorable. The "We're the Rats" song is based on a default 3D Movie Maker song, and "Rats Birthday Mixtape" is based on a public-domain tune called "Electro Cabello" by Kevin MacLeod.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Several times throughout Rat Movie, the dancing diner patron is shown squashing flat like a pancake or extending out into the sky, no explanation forthcoming.
  • Bizarro Episode: Rat Movie 2 has a confusing plot that breaks the fourth wall multiple times, and is much less straight-forward than that of the first.
  • Epileptic Trees: There are many questions surrounding Rat Movie 2, mostly regarding its Breaking the Fourth Wall. Did any of these events actually happen? Or was the ending we saw just another part of the movie being pitched to the rats? Or was it all the Giant Rat just playing with action figures in Michael's bathroom?
  • Fridge Brilliance: The ending of the first Rat Movie. It seems like a random non-sequitur when we see the planet exploding, followed by the appearance of a UFO with a cat for a head. However, knowing the true identity and goals of the Cat Police makes this ending heavy Foreshadowing.
  • Memetic Mutation: Either of the rats' songs; both the chant from the first and the birthday mixtape from the second.
  • Watch It for the Meme: Rat Movie has broken out from just the Jerma fandom, and the titular rats now find their ways into cameos all over, even appearing printed on bootleg merchandise.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: This copypasta attests to the film being a metaphor for the evils of capitalism. Additionally, both films feature police officers as antagonistic forces towards the titular rats.
