- Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Rose saying that she didn't remember why was she stunned by the article she saw in the newspaper after Solar Flare and Green Shadow came really because she became blinded by excitement when she was going to test her "sing theory" on Solar and her? Or was it because she actually lied about it so that it didn't intervene in her thesis because Solar and Penny were going to be so worried to concentrate in the battle? Considering she saw the newspaper just one or two minutes ago, probably even seconds ago, it would be weird that she just forgot about that article in an instant, not to mention that she said that it was foretold to her that Solar and Penny would came to the roof to see her, implying she has some sort of clairvoyance and thus she could have a much more advanced mind, making it even easier for her to have that article saved in her mind after she saw it.
- Harsher in Hindsight: At the very beginning of the mod, Solar Flare says that she "borrowed" Boyfriend's microphone and painted it, implying she stole that microphone from him. This is seen as a minor run-of-the-mill joke that fits Solar immature personality. Then in Week 3, which came in the V3 update along with Week 4, that same topic gets brought back by Night Cap as an unresolved mystery, this time as a more serious matter, as he says that she stole it from a "poor child"note , something that Solar denies it. Then, at the end of Week 4, we see a zombified Boyfriend and Girlfriend in Zomboss' army. So no matter how this "microphone Unexplained Past Incident" happened; in one way or another, Solar ended up taking an important object from a dead 19 year old youngster and indirectly stole his career, something he didn't take it nicely now as an undead.
- Narm: Freestyle, which is a moment when a singer/rapper improvise their lyrics in their songs, seems to be an important feature in this mod's story. So much so that, after Blast the Roof in Week 4, Solar Flare gets tired after Rose's freestyle midsong, and after the next song Sing Thesis, Rose is in the verge of tears once she felt Solar's freestyle moment in the middle of that song. What each of them meant is: Solar gets tired after Rose got into the music so much her eyes became monochromatic with each note's colours in her "solo" moment in Blast the Roof, and Rose gets emotional after seeing Solar's "solo" moment in which, after getting so tired, she became connected with her own spirit and took enough strength and determination to continue. Basically, it's like that Squidward crying-and-singing moment in Doomsday. Those are shocking moments, but the use of the word "freestyle" in something so serious makes it unintentionally funny.
- Nightmare Fuel: Despite of all the Bathos moments and the Sliding Scale of Silliness vs. Seriousness it has, the mod's creator really managed to turn something based off a work as humorous as Plants vs. Zombies and make it Darker and Edgier than its source material:
- Adam Advisor, FULL FUCKING STOP. An undead sunflower possesing a human body that even shows blood in that body's missing neck. He first appears in the original skin mod's Week 2 as a replacement for the Monster, of all people, and has the sides of his mouth cut off in all of his non-idle poses, while also having Black Eyes of Crazy, in a fashion similar to Flowey, all while he sings the Monster's beautiful composition about cooking and eating Boyfriend and Girlfriend. In this mod's reboot, he also appears in Week 2, first giving advises to Solar Flare in the shadows. Once "Nightly Chomp" ends, he shows up to the camera out of nowhere and sees the player with a Nightmare Face. Fortunately, he's revealed to be a good guy, but still has this curse about turning into a bloodthirsty zombie (or worse) that can only be temporarily stopped with music, which he begs to the protagonists to make in order to help him. Even when he shows up more dorkier in the rest of the levels, he still puts a Nightmare Face and has a noisier grunt when talking angrily, reminding us that he still has that creepy side on him.
- Peastrud is a gigantic red flower that has Blackshot Eyes and just watches Solar Flare throughout "Tac or Die"... without saying any word. Granted, the idea of Solar eating a bunch of tacos plus the song itself can be seen as Nightmare Retardant, but Solar is forced to eat these tacos while crying in fear and effort, all while Peastrud just keeps watching her. The cherry on top? If you miss any of the notes, Peastrud suddenly charges at Solar while his irises shrink like a maniac. Oh, and just to add a bit of Fridge Horror, these tacos, which already have wheat flatbread by default, also have other plant-based fillings inside...
- The Merlotus, an aquatic plant that likes music and swims in a foggy swamp. His cute appearance might hide his serious issues in the menu screen, but not so much in his own level: "Lights Out". The intro description says it all: "The Merflower lurks around"; "Do not let the lights out". We then cut to Solar Flare, who plays a drum in order to appease the flower, who only has his "crown" visible. If you miss the beat and let the darkness consume the screen, Solar gets dragged into the depths by the Merplant, with only her drum coming out of the surface (luckily, it turns out she comes back too if you retry). But that's not all. In the middle of the song, the Merlotus turns into a serpent-like Sea Monster that watches right up at the camera, while he starts "singing" with a demonic voice and drains Solar's health while making the lights fade faster!! Talk about a Surprisingly Creepy Moment.
- In the original skin mod, the Monster in Week 5 is replaced with the Zombie Hero Brain Freeze. This wouldn't be so bad (besides well, obviously the song)... if it wasn't for the fact he has red sclerae and irises and has a good amount of blood dripping from his mouth, implying he's just eaten somebody. The background isn't any better: the sky and the rest of the fauna are red and the tree with Girlfriend's head is replaced with the Zombot having blood on its mouth and Zomboss putting a Nightmare Face.
- In the intro cutscene for Week 4, we see a newspaper flying through the wind. It first lands on Cassette Girl's face, then it gets blown away again and gets caught by one of Rose's spells. They both read certain article from it, and both have the same reaction. After finishing the last song of Week 4, there's a cutscene where everyone (including Kernel Corn) gets happy, and then a soldier sunflower lands on Adam Advisor. Everything is normal... until we get to see that same newspaper stuck in an electric power pole, and we finally see why both Cassette and Rose reacted like that: "Humanity doomed as zombie population gradually increase". The cutscene continues, as we cut to the Zombot and Zomboss' army of zombies, explaining how he managed to infect 1/3 of the planet thanks to Boyfriend's abilities, similar to the Corruption. The worst part is that there's not only the known Mooks we see in PvZ... but also known characters from other mods. Boyfriend, now a zombie, then looks at an article in a newspaper that says how Solar became a famous singer... using his own microphone that she "borrowed" from him, and destroys the newspaper in anger. The faces of him and a zombified Girlfriend hidden in the shadows then look at the camera, with Girlfiend putting a sinister smile.
- Strawman Has a Point: Besides what he says about Solar Flare needing to give Boyfriend's microphone that she "borrowed" back in Week 3, something that even Green Shadow agrees, Night Cap is portrayed as a workaholic grumpy (shroom) guy that wants to be left alone instead of hanging out with his friends more often, since he didn't do it for months. While it's true that he did cheat in the rap battles and even went as far as using a Doom-shroom against Solar, he said he was sensing a huge wave of zombies coming and he wanted to be prepared, something that he, in fact, was right, as Week 4's ending shows. The girls literally couldn't have picked a better moment.
