YMMV / Piggy

Go To

  • Abridged Arena Array: For Book 1, players will often vote for Carnival since the open layout of the map makes it nearly impossible to lose against Piggy. "Nearly" in that it's still possible for a player-controlled Piggy to block the exit, meaning that unless players manage to find a gun and load it with bullets, it can be quite annoying to deal with.
  • Complete Monster: TIO, The Iniquitous One, after being betrayed by "a friend from beyond", became "more than he ever once was". When Mr. P's cure goes awry and causes a outbreak, TIO would brainwash some of the infected and found the Insolence, a group dedicated to prevent a cure to the infection under the belief that free will is destructive, yet TIO is willing to lead a faction just as destructive. TIO later traps and attempts to kill the Player Character in their mind when they are about to introduce the cure to the world.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Characters with only one name are usually given a Species Surname by the fandom (for example, "Daisy Donkey" or "Rash Raccoon"), with the most popular example of this naming scheme being "Willow Wolf." As of this writing, however, the only characters who are confirmed to have their species be part of their last name in some form are the Piggy family (with Georgie's surname being explicitly stated in the very first cutscene) and Kona Klip (a klipspringer), whose last name was revealed in the journal entry for the Season 6 event.
    • Prior to the revelation of his true name, TIO was previously referred by the fandom as "Dude Man", which was popularized by KreekCraft.
  • Good Bad Bugs: On high ping and playing solo, a bot-controlled Piggy will not move at all. While not noticeable on public servers, this is at its most notable in Private Servers, which can allow for solo play.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Willow crosses it before she even debuts by ordering Pony to give Doggy and the Player a potion, leading to Doggy getting infected. If that didn’t convince you, later on in Book 2 Chapter 3, she gets Zizzy scratched by an infected, thus likely getting her infected as well. And finally, at the end of the next chapter, she blows up the Safe Place with a bazooka, which makes her Heel–Face Turn at Book 2 Chapter 6 more jarring.
    • TIO definitely crossed it before the whole series even began by tricking Mr. P into testing Substance-128, causing the entire infection and inflicting an And I Must Scream fate on thousands, if not millions of people. Even if that somehow didn’t do it, slowly driving Mr. P insane with hallucinations should have.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • While the game wasn’t super scary in Book 1, Chapter 5 of Book 2 ends up turning the scare factor high up, with the map being much darker than most others, the bot being more of a threat, and the mysterious nature of the Insolence remaining creepy.
    • Chapter 7 of Book 2 contains an incredibly terrifying Easter egg where if you click on a bunch of Insolence eyes across the map and knock on the door of one building, an entity known only as Friend will emerge from the door. Friend is unsettling for its Cheshire Cat Grin similar to that of the current image of the Smilers, pitch black skin, and being a genuine threat, being one of the fastest bots in the game.
    • While Chapter 8 of Book 2 is otherwise fairly tame, there is another Easter egg where if you go against a window at the beginning of the match, a track known as Recording Tape C can be heard, having scratchy audio, creepy music and hidden codes which tell hints about The Insolence (i.e. “WE STOPPED THEM UP THERE AND WILL STOP YOU TOO”, “Zee will never speak”, “Smile for him”, etc.).
    • Chapter 9 of Book 2 has far more of a horror aesthetic than most of the other chapters, introducing the Crawling Trap, unnerving bot music and creepy and cryptic notes (i.e. “Dark creatures, dark creatures everywhere. Someone get me out of here. I’m just a farmer who wanted an adventure.”, “SOON”, etc.).
    • Laura, an unlockable skin in Chapter 11 of Book 2, is this for how sheerly unnerving she is, having pitch black eyes with a strange liquid leaking out of the right one and coming off as a Creepy Child due to the teddy bear she has. Her music, Investigation, also attributes to this with it’s unnerving feel. This is however kind of justified, as she was apparently directly inspired by one of MiniToon’s nightmares.
    • The entirety of the Distraction chapter. The creepy appearance of the bots, the dark color scheme, the creepy music made for the chapter, the slow desaturation in colors the longer it takes to finish the chapter, everything about it is just unnerving.
    • The same thing can DEFINITELY be said about the Breakout chapter. The genuine terror the Ombra skin produces, the creepy aesthetic with virtually no light, the gameplay style almost akin to The Mimic, EVERYTHING. MiniToon himself has even said he considers it the darkest chapter.
    • The design for Distorted Piggy simply is just… off. Unlike other skins, it’s design is relatively simplistic, but even then it’s still able to give genuine scares simply due to it’s Uncanny Valley, with the cracked Insolence eye and and the pitch black right side of it’s face helping with this.
    • Distorted TIO is practically the POSTER BOY for this game’s examples of this trope. It’s entire design is just terrifying, from it’s Slasher Smile to it’s Insolence eye-ridden top hat, to it’s Eldritch Abomination nature. Everything about it is terrifying.
  • No Yay: The Piggy fandom doesn’t seem to take well to shipping Delta and Laura as shown in the comment section of Laura’s Piggy fandom article, likely because Laura is a minor.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Camp combines the elements of secondary enemies climbing out of the ground from Outpost and secondary enemies chasing the player when they get too close from Ship. The issue being that unlike both of the two other maps, Camp doesn't have the secondary enemies visible until they spawn in nor does it give an indicator of where they'll spawn, leading to the common occurrence of secondary enemies spawning on the player and instantly killing them.
  • Scrappy Weapon: While Piggy's main arsenal are good in situations, some traps prove to be quite not so useful in all game modes:
    • The Egg Trap's main purpose is to slow down players and splatter their screen with an egg yolk. Unfortunately, its small size compared to the cheaper and bigger Slow Trap means that players can easily bypass the trap.
    • The Teleporter allows Piggy to teleport to another location from one teleporter pad to another. Unfortunately, after teleporting, Piggy gets stunned for a while, leaving players with enough time to get away.
    • The Tombstone Trap is Awesome, but Impractical incarnate: Upon triggering the trap, a Zompiggy springs up and can kill players! Unfortunately, it's slow to compensate, way too slow in fact, and requires a massive amount of energy to even summon Tombstone Trap.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: Book 2 is much harder compared to Book 1. For starters, the Piggy AI compared to the previous book is much more smarter- instead of simply running straight to the nearest player, they instead patrol the area, and if they spot the player, they become MUCH faster while pursuing them, and maps have items placed where not even some of them can see but can still grab. The saving grace is that abilities were introduced after a few chapters, though you will need to find the blueprints for them first, and the advanced Piggy AI only exists in Book 2, making Book 1 a good place to start for newcomers.
  • That One Achievement:
    • Getting the True Ending for Book 1 is much harder than it sounds. First, you have to achieve 100% Completion - this includes getting the bad ending and good ending - seems simple enough. Then you have to find a secret item in Chapter 9 while in "Player + Bot" mode - said item is well-hidden and unlike other items, does not respawn and is instantly erased when the player trades it for something else. It took MiniToon giving two vague hints and an entire week for a person to get the True Ending.
    • While it took less time for the first people to get the True Ending of Book 2, it somehow manage to one-up the difficulty. First you have to prevent Pony from being infected by the Piggy in Docks- easy to do with friends, hard to do solo and randoms. Then you have to enter a code in Camp- better search it up. Fail during any of these sequences, and you have to start all over. The final part involving translating a Cypher Language and entering numbers in a certain order in Labs- enter it wrong, start from square one. And if you leave the server, you have to start everything all over again! And the final part... See That One Boss.
  • That One Boss: TIO, fitting for his status as the True Final Boss, is much more vicious even compared to Book 2 AI Piggies. For starters you have about two minutes to enter codes within a certain amount of time while avoiding traps that cause TIO to become faster for a while, then when you get to his second phase, he becomes MUCH FASTER if he spots you, and this before the various Piggies that can surround you while in pitch-black darkness. Oh and not only abilities are disabled, but there is NOTHING to help you stun TIO aside from your allies. Good luck doing all of these to get the True Ending!
  • Unexpected Character: Before Chapter 7 of Book 2 released, MiniToon revealed that players would meet a "familiar face" in the chapter. Said character being Budgey took the entire fanbase by surprise, since Budgey was a character created from a skin design contest. Budgey being a pirate in a modern day setting also makes the character's presence in Book 2 all the more surprising.
