• Anti-Climax Boss: Despite being the Big Bad and his Dragon, both Marciano and Kowalski are taken care of rather quickly in the climax. Marciano by way of Kowalski's poison, and Kowalski by way of a bomb blowing up in his face.
• Awesome Music:
  • The ending and opening theme, Manhattan Joke., with vocals by Naoko Kawai and composed by Yuji Ohno, starts off rather somber before becoming upbeat and fast paced.
  • This instrumental. is also ridiculously good.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: This won't be the last time we'd see an alien princess with the name "Rosetta". 21 years after this film was released, Super Mario Galaxy was released with a princess-type character from outer space named "Rosalina," who was named "Rosetta" in the Japanese release.
• Inferred Holocaust: You know what can cause a ton of damage and hurt a lot of people? A tower's worth of solid gold falling from the sky onto downtown Manhattan. Fortunately, the vast majority of that was over the water. And if it did land on anyone, guven how the wind was blowing, it would hit someone from New Jersey.
• Magnificent Bastard: Rosetta is an alien who disguises herself as a drunken old woman to hunt for a treasure her people left on Earth. Falling in love with Lupin, Rosetta assists the brilliant thief and together they find the fabled Tower of Babel as he makes his way through enemies and traps. Able to return home after completing her mission, Rosetta bids Lupin farewell and accepts his decision to fight to keep the fabled treasure on Earth.
• The Other Darrin
  • The Portuguese dub is the only one to have Lupin's voice in the gorilla costume be Darrin'd from his normal one. Normally, Lupin is voiced by Ezio Ramos while his voice in the costume is Francisco Borges.
  • The Italian dub has Enzo Consoli Darrin'd by Maurizio Mattioli for Zenigata, but only in one scene where Pops acts as the Announcer for the Miss ICPO contest.
• Sequelitis: Fans of the franchise think this film falls far below both The Mystery of Mamo and The Castle of Cagliostro. That said, it does have its own fans and defenders.
• Vindicated by History: In recent years (especially after Discotek's 2018 release), fans seem to have come to appreciate the movie a bit more, due to its wild plot, wacky humor, great animation, and not taking itself seriously in the least. It's not considered one of the top-tier Lupin features by a long shot, but it definitely has its fans.
• Woolseyism: In the Japanese version, both Lupin and the Marciano gang sing traditional Japanese chants early in the film. In the English dub, Lupin's chant is changed to the tune of "Yankee Doodle" while the gangsters chant "Red Rover".
  • The gag between Lupin and Zenigata plays out differently depending on the dub.
  Lupin: [Japanese] Pops, those cymbals really suit you. Enough to make me want to give you a kiss.
  Zenigata: [Japanese] Oh? Then why don't you kiss me?
  Lupin: [Italian] I like my little game. I wish you the best of luck.
  Zenigata: [Italian] How can I make the urge to play go away?
  Lupin: [Spanish] Hey, Inspector, do you like motorbikes? Want me to kiss you?
  Zenigata: [Spanish] Fine, kiss me!
  Lupin: [English] You and Chuckles make a great team. You're a chimp off the old block.
  Zenigata: [English] Oh yeah? Well, monkey see, monkey do!
