YMMV / Kim Richards

Go To

  • Broken Base: Her hiatus from YouTube. Was because she was feeling burned out/depressed (due in no small part because of all the changes YouTube had been making), or was it that her viewer counts and subscribers had been rapidly declining (and so it could arguably be seen as her way of throwing in the towel)?
    • Kim would later clarify that it was that she was burned out, and was struggling to deal with all the hatred she had been receiving from trolls and anti-fans.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Her July 2018 vlog, where she revealed she had been engaged for a year and would be getting married. She looks fantastic and healthy, and is clearly in a much better place mentally. The overwhelming positive response from her fans also counts.
    • Her return to YouTube was met with pretty much unanimous rejoicing, and people seem to be much more relaxed and welcoming to her this time around.
    • In 2019, there was an incident where Strippin, while speaking about his time with the Yogscast, said he believed that Kim had been "intimidated" by him and had persuaded Lewis to remove Strippin from Yogscast News. Kim wrote a very heartfelt explanation/apology, and Strippin replied, thanking her very much for clarifying things, apologized as well and said that he sincerely wished her well.
    • The fact that Hat Films consider her an honourary fourth member.
      • Also, it's worth noting that the only Yogscast members Kim follows on Instagram are Hat Films, Duncan Jones, Rhiannon, Mark Hulmes and Nina Serena.
  • Iron Woobie: Kim has been treated awfully by the fandom on a regular basis, with racism and sexism towards her being rather common on a regular basis. She's also had a few brushes with depression. Despite this, Kim is extremely lovely to her fans and has continued to make videos in spite of a Vocal Minority hatedom.
    • In a vlog posted in 2018 she mentioned that the constant abuse from her hatedom was a factor in her deciding to go on hiatus.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Kim has garnered a massive LGBT+ fanbase due to her general niceness, as well as this "Ask Kim" video, which is very encouraging to the LGBT+ community. In a Pride event stream in 2016, she revealed she did not identify as straight either, having dated both women and men in the past. She continued by clarifying that she didn't know what her sexuality was yet, nor how to define it, although in a later video she joked about her look of the day being "peak gay" (plaid jacket, dungarees and a rainbow Pride shirt) and mock flirtatiously said "Ladies..."
    • In a post on her Instagram in 2018, she revealed she was pansexual.
  • Memetic Mutation: In her playthrough of Phasmophobia with Rhi, Jon Robertson and Tom (Amadeus Fink), Kim was startled by a ghost and exclaimed "Fuck this for a game of tits!" It quickly became the go-to phrase for the entire group, continuing on through multiple episodes.
  • Periphery Demographic: Kim has a fairly notable number of young fans and does seemingly bear them in mind, although she doesn't necessarily indulge in Pandering to the Base,
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Initially, Kim was divisive due to her presentation style, shouting a lot and simply being new, not to mention a racist and sexist Vocal Minority. Her content and presentation style has improved dramatically since first joining, and she now has perhaps one of the biggest fandoms, particularly on Tumblr.
  • Win Back the Crowd: Kim was initially a very polarising member of the Yogscast, but has since won over many fans due to her endearing personality, support of the LGBT+ community, ability to have a laugh at her own expense and a developing sense of humour.
