  • Catharsis Factor: Episode 4 sees Yamcha finally get thrown a bone after being the series' punching bag. This post from the comment section put it best:
I just kinda realized something: these shorts really nailed home the idea that the "losers" and "weaklings" in the Z Fighters really have some of the best outcomes.
Krillin is happily married to the woman who's arguably the hottest in the series, and they end up having a kid.
Yamcha is one of the richest guys on Earth.
Gohan learns to stand up for himself, even against Vegeta, as well as actually become content with his life, and is able to pursue his passions.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
  • Growing the Beard: Many people didn't seem to like Episode 1 due to it feeling forced. By episode 3, many of those people are warming up to the series.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Christmas is shown to be Goku's favorite holiday while Goten is born on Christmas. It makes the two's father and son bonding particularly heartwarming, especially in the Buu Saga and Dragon Ball Super where they grew close and Goten understanding his father's love for training.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The fact that the series is CGI-based, considering the official release eventually would have its own CGI-only theatrical film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Vegeta as of Episode 5. Without Goku or Future Trunks around, the only two people willing to put up with him, he has effectively alienated himself from the entire cast due to his own bad attitude. What's worse is this also means he can't get anyone to fight him, even though it is literally in his instincts to train and get stronger, but everyone he tries to ask says no because they want nothing to do with him anymore.
  • Nightmare Fuel: At the end of the Halloween special, Kid Buu stops by the POV character's house for candy. Unfortunately, the POV character was forced to give all of his candy to Beerus, and since Kid Buu does not want to leave without candy, he comes up with another solution to get it. Not helped by the last shot of Buu laughing with glee and grabbing the candy being from below, reminding us that people transformed into candy are still aware of their surroundings.
    • Speaking of Beerus, his Jack o' Lantern helmet, while cute on its own, becomes terrifying when he starts making it glow with Hakai energy to punctuate his threats. Though given who he is, it's not quite a threat when he offers an ultimatum - it's a fact.
Beerus: Oh, and if I find a single Mound bar in here... [He enters the house and stares the POV character directly in the face] I'll wipe out humanity. [Floats backwards and out of sight like a doll on strings, slamming the door on his way out]
  • Shocking Moments: Episode 4, Yamcha is kicked out of baseball. Par the course for his bad luck. Then given a fortune. You'd expect him to get screwed out of his money in one way or another, but nope, he becomes even richer with savvy investments. Things finally worked out for him for once!
  • Special Effect Failure: In Episode 5 while 18 is giving Vegeta "The Reason You Suck" Speech, the shadows behind the window shutters start to slowly disappear as the camera zoom pushes the shutters off-screen.
  • Squick: Most of Episode 2 is just Gohan having a clear view of Goten slowly getting squeezed out of their mother's birth canal.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Episode 4, Yamcha gets kicked off the baseball team for being too good. The poor man is devastated, believing that baseball was the only thing he had left in his life after losing his ex and all his friends were married, busy, or assholes. But just when you think it's gonna be another moment where he's the resident Butt-Monkey, luckily, it turns into a happy tearjerker... because he's given 20 billion zeni, bought the Hetap Company which doubled his net worth, and ended up owning a sports bar franchise called "Wolf Fang Grill" where he lets all his friends and Vegeta eat for free. Earn Your Happy Ending, indeed!
    • Episode 5 shows the beginning of Vegeta's really obvious midlife crisis (or rather the realization that his life was already over).
      • In short, without Goku or Future Trunks around anymore, he's lost the only people that would actually put up with his bullshit. His greatest enemies, Freeza and Cell, are dead, and everyone else has either moved on or wants nothing to do with him. He has only himself to blame, but it's kind of sad to watch.
      • At the end of that episode, after finally relenting in his demands after Gohan explains that it would be, at best, a pity fight, Vegeta's so desperate for someone, anyone to fight him, he called Nappa, someone he barely tolerates and knows he can easily beat, 37 times.
      • Worse yet, his Saiyan instincts are screaming at him to fight strong opponents, to push himself to the limit and beyond, but other than Gohan, Vegeta is the strongest fighter on the planet; and being that he essentially didn't earn it since Goku sacrificed himself and thus never got his rematch, he can't cope with it. And as mentioned above, everyone else wants nothing to do with him. Really, it's no wonder he turned Majin and forced Goku to fight him in the Buu saga... because now we see exactly why.
      • And come September 2023? We get to see TeamFourStar's take on Majin Vegeta via "Buu Bits" in Totally Not Mark's review of the Majin Buu saga. Ho-ly fuck.
  • Unexpected Character: Kid Buu appears dressed as a witch in The Halloween Episode. When the viewpoint character tells them he's out of candy (since Beerus took it all), he turns him into candy himself.
