YMMV / Chameleon Twist

  • Franchise Original Sin: The first game also had an international version that was inferior to the Japanese version, but it got away with it because A) The internet was still young, so there weren't any good methods of comparison, and B) The Japanese version actually came out later. In contrast, one could see what was wrong with the sequel's international version just by casually looking at it.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: In the hands of any skilled gamer, this game can easily be completed in an hour or two (not counting collecting all the crowns in each level). The second game is better about this by making the levels harder and MUCH longer, though it is still fairly short.
  • That One Boss: The Final Boss in the first game is much more difficult and aggravating than any other boss before it. The first phase is easy enough but the second phase has the boss turn into a highly mobile tank that will fire multiple orbs at you. To defeat the boss, you have to eat enough orbs and then pelt the boss with them and score enough hits in a row to defeat the boss in one swoop. If you don't, it will immediately regenerate to top shape and keep fighting. The problem is that the boss moves very fast and is hard to hit, and when it's stationary it will either immediately move once you start trying to fire on it or it will turn and counter your shots with its own.
  • That One Level: Kid's Land in the first game. Lots of tight platforming plus the Camera Screw to deal with of the N64 era and you've got a stage that will make you pull your hair out. Thankfully the boss of the stage is quite easy.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The new designs for the characters in the international versions of Chameleon Twist 2 were not very well received by fans, lacking the cute charm that the originals had.
  • Sequelitis: While the first game was a Cult Classic at best, the arbitrary changes made to the International version of the sequel scared off what few fans the series had.
  • Ugly Cute: The redesigns do have their fans though and they are often viewed as this.
