YMMV / Brothers Conflict

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: The novels predate both the games and the anime by a couple of years, but only casual fans seem to talk about the latter, and to a lesser extent, the former. Especially abroad, since only the anime was released outside of Japan.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Hikaru (especially in the Anime) due to his trolling of his brothers and his crossdressing tendencies.
    • Masaomi due to his cute personality and being one of the very few otome game love options in their thirties.
    • People can't help but root (and feel bad) for poor Yusuke, since he's also Ema's classmate and already had a crush on her before they became step-siblings. Fans are very sympathetic towards him because of this and the antics his brothers put him through. You also have the fact that Matthew Mercer voiced him in the English dub which is basically the cherry on top.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: In the US, to the point where it's one of the most popular requests for Aksys Games. It getting a Vita rerelease has only increased the amount.
  • Narm: The title for the Vita port, "Precious Baby" doesn't make all that sense, at least compared to the Psp titles. Since "Passion Pink" and "Brilliant Blue" were references to the color theme of the series mascots, Tsubaki and Azusa, respectively. Then you have most of the love interests in Tsubaki's game and the love interests in Azusa's game being each other's red oni to blue oni. The only thing the Vita title borrows is the beginning letter from both previous titles.
  • Moe: Wataru is really adorable due to his cheerful personality.
  • Strangled by the Red String: The novels push Ema and Subaru together despite their being little evidence that she loves him any differently than the others.
  • That One Side Quest: Brothers Conflict is a stat-raising game, meaning you need to raise certain stats to see specific scenes, events, and endings. Although, some will be a lot harder to attain than others. For example...
    • The Triplets ending, for starters. You need five hearts for Azusa and four hearts for Tsubaki and Natsume. You have to go to the cinema for Azusa's date on the 24th of October so he can call over Tsubaki (If you raised enough affection for him, that is). You also need to have family love around 80%, do certain activities to unlock multiple scenes, and be careful on not to raise all three guys' affection too high. If that happens, you won't be able to get the ending anymore.
    • Getting Juli's route just might be the most complex thing in the whole game. Not only do you need to have all the boys at a certain amount of hearts, (with Louis with the most) you need have save data from both games before you can even attempt to go see Juli. Which means if you only have one game, you're out of luck. Thankfully, the Vita/Switch port gets rid of this problem.
    • Trying to get a guy's specific CG in his opposite game (Azusa in Passionate Pink or Masaomi in Brilliant Blue, for example) can be tedious at times. Since the opposite game will not give them events to raise their affection, the player has to go out of their way to do that on their own. Then if you accidentally raise too much affection for one or multiple guys, events will play out on days you could've spent with a specific brother or raising family love. What's worse is that you can't get those days back.
  • The Scrappy: Juli, at least in the anime.
    • Fuuto to many for his Jerkass personality and Attempted Rape of Ema.
    • Subaru is this for some fans simply due to the fact that he and Ema end up together in the novels. It's not what he did do, it's more like what he didn't do. Most fans find him very unremarkable unlike Masaomi, Yusuke, Iori, or the triplets. Even Fuuto, who has a notable amount of haters, also has his fans for being bold and straightforward. The fact that his rival, Natsume, lost to him is salt in the wound since he's one of the most popular of the brothers both in Japan and in the west.
  • Squick: How some feel about preteen Wataru being a romance option in the game.
    • Not to mention the oldest brother, Masaomi, being 31 and Ema being 17.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Is your favorite character not one of the Triplets, or Subaru? Too bad! If not, they will get little time with Ema. The novels push others to the background in order to develop four characters. There are 13 siblings. Thankfully each character has a route in the game where they are developed.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The end of the books' first cour teased that Hikaru, Louis, Ukyo and some of the other lesser seen characters would get more relationship development with Ema. But come cour 2, nope. It ends after one volume and focuses on the Natsume, Ema, Subaru love triangle. Then Ema simply gets together with Subaru and apparently has a kid. That's it.
    • Some feel the series would've been more interesting if it had ditched the harem aspect and focused more on the brothers' odd family life.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Hikaru and Wataru to some. This may be why Yūki Kaji voices the latter.
