• Creepy Awesome: Like in Chainsaw Man, Makima is a disturbing yet powerful woman, from the very beginning of A Devil Amongst Worms and only gets worse as the story goes on. With a menacing Control Freak nature, plenty of Dissonant Serenity that disturbs even some of the characters on Earth-Bet around her, and has a horrific ruthless streak, it speaks volumes that most readers fear her more than they do of any of the villains on Worm.
• Evil Is Cool: Makima is, as in canon, a very sinister woman, but she's also very smart and powerful too, which has a number of displays like, say, launching Leviathan into friggin' Mercury! For many, her nefarious nature only amplifies her quality as an interesting Villain Protagonist in the world of Earth-Bet that already had some and has no plans on making a Heel–Face Turn. As in the manga, Makima is considered to be both scary and attractive by the readers. Hell, in-universe, Even the Girls Want Her is very much invoked as much as guys being into Makima.
• Ho Yay: Bakuda apparently has the hots for Makima, as well as more than a few women on the PHO threads.
• Love to Hate: Makima is this, naturally. She is a Faux Affably Evil Villain Protagonist that, at the end of the day, doesn't care about other people beyond how useful they are to her but she still gets shit done in Earth-Bet better than anyone else, along with her proving herself to be a The Chessmaster in a world that's alien to her.
• Rooting for the Empire: More than a few readers are cheering for Makima when she's winning her fights. This is mostly due to her victories over her opponents falling under the Asshole Victim category, like Lung, and defeating seemingly Invincible Villains like Leviathan where the PRT and Protectorate have failed. The fact that she ends up fixing a lot of things in Brockton Bay, and also accurately calls out and tears apart many of the failings of cape society, such as the unjust treatment of people like Rachel, only adds to this.
• Shocking Moments: Makima sends Leviathan flying into freakin' Mercury in their fight, blowing the planet up to bits, and he has no way to get back to Earth-Bet. This makes her the Hope Bringer to the world.
