Word Of God / Inanimate Insanity

  • The main island where the first two seasons take place is called "Inanimate Island".
    • The island that Invitational take place on is called "Paradise".
  • According to Adam, Nickel is not a Hate Sink despite his dismissive attitude towards Suitcase and the poor way he treats Balloon; he does consider Suitcase an ally (he just doesn't know how to show it) and the primary reason he ostracizes Balloon is because he's afraid of him tearing the alliance apart. Additionally, he tries to emotionally cater to people he considers friends (such as when he tries to coach Knife into conveying his mean thoughts into sarcasm or when he tries to help Baseball out of his slump in "Mazed And Confused").
  • According to the livestream held after its debut, the entire design for the Gemories in Season 2 Episode 13 came from the designers looking at a list of emojis for inspiration, and finding the "Diamond With a Dot" emoji. Its scarcity, general unpopularity, and simplistic design ultimately led to it being the basis for the Gemories.
  • This post by Taylor details his takes on personalities for Spoiled Lemon, who otherwise serve as minor characters:
    • Starfruit has a "soulful" personality and finds connection with musical lyrics no matter how shallow they may be, is an Attention Whore, and is prone to making brash decisions, such as trying out new genres or outright leaving the band.
    • Lemon is the band's creator, serving as the band's mood-maker of sorts. Like Starfruit, he has Attention Whore tendencies, but he tends to be overshadowed by him due to his lack of charisma.
    • Pineapple is The Heart of the band, writing the group's songs and coordinating the other members, but he feels that he's stuck in Starfruit's shadow. He is "cool and collected", but he's also a terrible singer.
    • Guava is more soft-spoken and introspective compared to his bandmates, and while he does come up with song ideas, he doesn't really speak up a lot. Despite not having much of a presence, he's still happy to be part of the band.
    • Tomato is one of the later additions to the band and enjoys experimenting with synths and song ideas. He's very laid-back and tends to go with the flow.
    • Mangosteen is The Big Guy and The Stoic who doesn't care about fame and mostly shows up to hit the drums. Nevertheless, he's fiercely protective of his bandmates and cares for them deep down, but he "won't hesitate to beat you up."
  • According to Taylor, II!Nickel and BFDI!Nickel are completely separate beings and therefore not the same character, with Inanimate Insanity and Battle for Dream Island being completely separate shows.
    • Taylor further elaborates on the coexistence of the Inanimate Insanity and BFDI universes in this post: BFDI characters made infrequent cameos and early episodes reference Nickel failing to join BFDI and getting trapped in the Locker of Losers, but these references mostly served as hat-tips to Inanimate Insanity's inspiration when the lore wasn’t as important.
"I like to think that back in S1, BFDI was canon (to an extent) in II, but II was not canon in BFDI. Today, I retcon that idea and say the case is different. Loren and I entertained the idea that some of the BFDI cameos, like Nonexisty, are just figments of Nickel’s imagination - who just “imagined” he was on another show for a little while for whatever reason. Other little cameos like Pencil and Firey are just what they are - cameos with nothing lasting, so they shouldn’t be highly considered when looking into canonical II lore."
  • Taylor has stated that while the events of the first two seasons feed into Season 3, the events of II2 and II3 will not affect each other.
  • It was confirmed at the 2023 Meetup that Bot, Fan, and Test Tube are a family.
