What Could Have Been / CVGW James

Go To

James is a fanfic writer who has written over hundreds and hundreds of stories, and he's often public with changes he made to them, so it's no surprise that enough of them would warrant this trope's own page.

Characters
  • The true identity of Bee-Boy, a superhero created by James, was originally going to be called Billy B. Beemurton, but this was changed to Billiam Beamurton to avoid confusion with Billy Batson.
Stories
  • "The Legend of Zelda: Return of Demise" was meant to be 17 chapters long, but James cut it down to 11 after going over the story and merging some of the chapters together.
  • "You're An Inkling, You're A Dalek" was originally going to have Team B from RusSniper45's videos defend Inkopolis from the Daleks, but James instead decided to give that role to a red Inkling boy with a name that pays homage to two of the doctors from Doctor Who.
  • "Kirby And The Internet Graveyard" was originally going to end with Kirby getting warped to the Dark Web and encountering Zero near a purple Guardian Pod, but James decided on a happier ending where Kirby returns home safe and sound.
  • James considered adding an interaction between Meggy and the Squid Sisters in "SplatSquad vs Team Blue: One Legendary Turf Match-Up" where she tells them that her beanie came from Oneshot Wren, and Callie telling Meggy she agrees with Wren's notion that Meggy has the makings of a champion. This was cut for fear of the story getting too long.
  • After Meggy wins Splatfest against Desti and the Octoposse in "The Splatfest Rematch", James considered having her cry Tears of Joy like she would later do in Meggy's Destiny: An SMG4 Movie upon receiving similar results. Ultimately, he decided on her cheering "we did it!" instead.
  • Three regarding "The Melon and the Vanny":
    • Melony was originally going to be fighting Vanny naked like with her last encounter with the FNAF animatronics, but James decided on having her fight in a bikini this time instead, though she would later get naked in the Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex with Jaxl that followed.
    • The story would have ended with Mario appearing out of nowhere during Melony and Jaxl's Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex dressed as Vanny and getting a scare from Melony before unmasking himself. This didn't end up happening for the sake of a straightforward and heartwarming ending.
    • Before writing the story, James thought about having Vanny stab Jaxl in the shoulder (albeit nonfatally) in her attempt to kill him, but as he wrote it, he decided to leave Jaxl unscathed.
  • Sonic's first scene in "Spider-Hog: The Starved" had him hearing the news of Starved Eggman's rampage while on the rooftops hanging out with Amy and Spider-Amy, a version of her that got bit by a spider. Ultimately, James settled on no romance and instead had Spider-Hog hear the news while listening to music on the radio, still on the rooftops.
  • Andrew's girlfriend in "Andrew's Birthday Love" is Mina Mongoose, but James initially considered Nicole, a DC character, or one of his Sonic OCs.
  • For Mario's multiversal journey in "Across the Mario-verse", James initially considered having Mario bump into Starved Eggman, but it was cut, since there was no alternate Mario in that universe.
  • "Santa Mario Wants Mario's Liver" was originally going to end with the revelation that Santa Mario was Enzo in disguise. But while Enzo is indeed behind the conflict, it was actually Mr. Incredible working for Enzo.
  • When making "Fun In Paradise", James thought about having Venom attack the group while they were in their hot tub, but opted for his usual Slice of Life approach instead.
  • "TIE Trouble" was originally going to end with Donkey Kong going home after Darth Vader admits defeat, and that would have been that. However, James later wrote one of the two scenes after the "The End" card as a way of explaining where they came from.
  • "Thanos' Invasion of Themyscira" was going to end with Thanos wiping out a good portion of Themyscira. This was swapped out in favor of a happier ending.
    • Similar to "TIE Trouble", the story wasn't going to have The Stinger, but James added two as a way of tying into the multiverse saga.
  • Three for "Starro Seaside Terror":
    • James at one point considered having Batman say he and Wonder Woman would get ice cream after Starro's defeat. This was changed to them relaxing in a hot spring... which was then changed to them relaxing in a hot tub somewhere. That somewhere ended up being Bruce's yacht.
    • Bruce was going to give Diana a back massage, and they were going to engage in a steamy make-out session. However, James decided them relaxing in the hot tub and going for a swim together was enough to end the story.
    • James thought about putting a stinger for the story, but decided against it.
  • When writing "Godzilla: Unearthly Nuclear Horror", James considered having the story begin during 1945 with the atom bombings, but struggled to figure out how it would tie into Daemon Godzilla, so he settled for starting the story in the present during an Ambiguous Time Period.
    • The story almost ended with a nuke getting dropped on Godzilla (and having no effect on him), then having a disintegrator ray get deployed. It instead ended with Godzilla continuing to destroy Japan.
  • Several examples regarding "Meggy Reacts to Splatoon Memes":
  • Among the changes to "The Octo-Human From Another World", one of them was Meggy asking the alternate Desti if Axol was still alive in her world.
  • "Eggman's Prank Attack on Sonic" was originally going to have Eggman send Sonic a letter saying he kidnapped Amy. Then, when Sonic raced over to Eggman's fortress, he finds that Amy isn't there, and then Eggman would spring his trap by activating a spring that sent Sonic out of the lair. Basically, the prank attack would have played out differently than the final version.
  • On the subject of prank attacks turning out different in James' stories, in "Luigi Gets Pranked by Mario" Mario was originally going to lure Luigi to a graveyard to make him think he died, then appear behind him to surprise him. He does still end up doing that last part, just in a cave instead.
  • The Stinger in "Yoshis and Dinosaurs" was originally going to be Yoshi getting thrown into a cell, but instead, James settled on Sha'D'Oh Nightmare's Evil Laugh.
  • "Knuckles and the King of Pumpkin Hill" was intended to be a Halloween story, but due to writer's block, production on it was delayed until the 22nd anniversary of Sonic Adventure 2 came around.
  • "Our Splatfest Destiny" was originally going to end with a recreation of how Meggy's Destiny: An SMG4 Movie ended; with a game of Pin the Tail on the Boopkins without Meggy dying like she did in "What if Desti never died?" (though a stinger would have shown her dying in an alternate universe).
  • Had "Meggy's Amazing Birthday" been made before SMG4 Movie: Western Spaghetti, One-Shot Wren would have appeared in person at Meggy's birthday party.
  • The premise of "Meggy and Desti's Splatoween Out" was going to be different from a confrontation with an alternate Meggy in a haunted house. Meggy and Desti were originally going to enter a Halloween costume contest.
  • When writing "Bob Lives, Bois!", James was originally going to include a scene of Bob surprising Melony to tell her that he's alive... while she's taking a bath. This ended up being unused, though you can find a drawing of it here.
