What An Idiot / Jurassic Park: The Game

Go To

Even with 120 miles of ocean, turns out that even idiocy will still spare no expense in Jurassic Park: The Game.

  • Before the events of the game, it was revealed that Laura had greatly opposed much of Ingen's contingency plans for the dinosaurs, such to the extent that the management team took notice.
You'd Expect: That the management team outright bring this up to Laura, saying why they need this to happen, and if she continues to disagree, have her fired. It's possible she's under contract and they could force her to sign an NDA, being able to easily sue her into oblivion if she decides to break said contract.
Instead: They merely relocate her to her own private laboratory, where she can do her own research.
As A Result: Still upset at the contingency plans, Laura comes up with the idea for the anti-lysine contingency serum, and is able to work on it undetected.
  • Relating to the above, it was revealed that Laura had bred and raised a bunch of Troodon, raptor-like dinosaurs that had venomous bites and were considered to be too dangerous. After the failed escape of the Big One, Hammond, the same person who kept the dangerous Velociraptors alive despite Muldoon's insistence out of a desire for them to live and flourish in the world, orders the Troodon euthanized since he agrees that they're indeed too dangerous to be kept alive.
You'd Expect: Knowing how much Laura wants to keep anything alive even if it's dangerous, that he send in personnel to restrain Laura and kill the Troodon themselves.
Instead: Hammond merely tells Laura herself that they need to be euthanized, and trusts that she'll do it.
As A Result: Laura decides to study them in secret, and that in itself results in Nima being bit by one and nearly dying, and it eventually results in Billy finally losing his patience with Laura after the Troodons have made a nest out of D-Caf and causing his Face–Heel Turn.
  • In the first episode, it is revealed that Miles had been posing as an employee of InGen in order to steal dinosaur embryos.
You'd Expect: That while posing as an employee, actually take time to learn about the dinosaurs. Sure, he may not be able to learn everything about them, but he could ask around for stuff like behavioral patterns or something along those lines. That way, he could make up for his lack of field work, which Nima can even note is very lacking. Not only that, him taking time to learn about the dinosaurs would make him seem more trustworthy since it would give the idea that he cares about the project.
Instead: Miles doesn't learn about any of the dinosaurs.
Naturally: Once Dennis fails to show up before the boat leaves and Miles and Nima are forced to go after him, Miles is woefully unprepared for the dinosaurs on the island, and it winds up getting him killed.
  • In the second episode, Billy and Oscar had encountered Vargas, who had gone crazy and presumably just gunned down Bravo Team. Oscar incapacitates him, but Billy is able to get Oscar to spare him, thinking Vargas might know about what happened and why he went crazy.
You'd Expect: That Billy make an effort to keep an eye on him. Sure, he's pacified, but Oscar had to shoot him and he's clearly in no shape to fight back. Plus, there are dinosaurs around, among them are the as of yet unknown, but dangerous Troodon.
Instead: Billy and Oscar leave Vargas alone in the visitor center to check the cameras.
As A Result: While checking the cameras, one of the Troodon come by and drag off Vargas for a Fate Worse than Death, This forces the duo to retreat for their own safety and prevents them from finding out about the Troodon, and it also prevents them from warning D-Caf about them as well, leading to his own demise.
  • During the helicopter ride, it becomes clear that Nima and Oscar have history together, and Nima had just started to badmouth the mercenaries much to the anger of Oscar. Billy would tell the others to calm down, resulting in Nima turning her attention to him.
You'd Expect: That Billy do anything aside from antagonize her. He's a massive joker, but now's the time to be serious.
Instead: Billy makes several sarcastic jabs at her expense.
As A Result: Nima gets mad enough to get Oscar riled up, and if it wasn't for Gerry calming them down, then a full on fight would break out on the chopper. Considering how a fight between the two later resulted in the chopper crashing, it's possible that had Gerry not calmed them down, they all would've died.
  • The group has to fix the power plant in order to avoid it blowing up, and as part of the shutdown procedure, the blast doors closes rather slowly.
You'd Expect: That as the group enter the power plant, they shut the doors they came in and lock them. They had just encountered raptors earlier on, and they know they can open doors at this point.
Instead: Not a single person thinks to do this.
As A Result: The raptors end up returning and getting into the room just as the blast doors close, forcing Oscar to perform a Heroic Sacrifice in order to reopen them, which in itself only quickens Billy's Despair Event Horizon and his eventual Face–Heel Turn.
  • At one point, Billy finds out about the secrets of the canister, learning that delivering the dinosaur embryos would give him a lot of money. In doing so, he ends up cutting a deal with Nima that they both will deliver the canister to Nima's contact.
You'd Expect: That Billy keep said canister secret. Among the people in the group are two InGen employees, and if they were to find out, surely they would sell him out. Plus, removing the embryos from their canister runs the risk of them going bad, making them worthless.
Instead: While in the marine exhibit, Billy decides to open the canister and examine them. This causes Nima to chastise him for being so reckless, and Jess eventually notices said canister.
As A Result: When Billy betrays the group and leaves them to die, he fails to realize that as he's leaving the group to be killed, Jess had swiped the canister from him. While he is lucky that the group managed to escape with the canister, he ends up staying on the island long enough to ambush them, resulting in the T-Rex coming by and it eventually killing him. All because Billy had to look at the can.
Even Worse: As seen in the end, the boat was right there and was unmanned. Billy very well could've taken a good look at the boat and see there was a big case of money inside, meaning he could've just left right there without the canister if he just cared enough to look at the boat.
  • In the final episode, Laura had been trying to convince the government to spare the island upon hearing the island was soon to be firebombed.
You'd Expect: That Laura bring up the lysine contingency. While she got rid of it, the government doesn't know that, and she could use that knowledge to convince them that they're not a threat to the global ecosystem.
Instead: Laura, in a last-ditch effort to convince them, takes the group hostage, and after the government labels her as a terrorist for this act, Laura spitefully releases the massive and powerful mosasaur to destroy the ecosystem, completely forgetting that the room she's in contains a large, human sized pool that the mosasaur can access.
As A Result: The mosasaur knocks into the pod and knocks Laura into the water, where it promptly kills her.
  • During the final episode, the T-Rex suddenly shows up while Billy and Nima were fighting over the canister, and both are forced to remain still. The canister ends up next to Gerry however, and considering that Billy had tried to kill them and the T-Rex is focused on Jess, he subtly kicks the canister and it's about to tumble off the dock.
You'd Expect: That Billy doesn't move. Yes, it will suck that he'll lose the canister, but it's not like he can do much considering it's either lose the canister or get eaten by a T-Rex.
Instead: As it gets closer to the edge, Billy rushes to the canister and grabs it just as it falls off. He then just stands there, forgetting there's a T-Rex right behind him. The experienced mercenary doesn't even try to run for it or jump in the water to escape in the few precious seconds he has left before the T-rex eats him, instead just letting it walk up to him in a Right Behind Me moment.
    Result: He promptly gets eaten.
  • Later on, during the final chase, Nima drops the dinosaur embryo canister after the T-rex forces its way underneath a skywalk while chasing Gerry, and Jess is on the verge of either falling off or being eaten after the dinosaur notices Jess. The player can have Nima either save Jess and sacrifice the canister or vice versa. If Nima goes after the canister at the expense of Jess' life, she runs outside to retrieve it.
You'd Expect: Since the character has been shown to be quick-thinking when dealing with the dinosaur beforehand and considering that it's right next to her, that she would pick it up and immediately run back to (relative) safety inside. Failing that for whatever reason, she would remain completely still (since the T-rex's vision is based on movement) like she did a few minutes ago after the fight with Yoder even in a dazed state.
Instead: Nima grabs the Idiot Ball and does exactly what Yoder did. After picking it up, she stops to smile and look at it. It takes six seconds for her to suddenly remember the rumbling fifteen-foot tall T-rex only a couple feet away from her. She completely turns around after realizing this, letting the T-rex see her if it hadn't already, and doesn't make a token effort to run in general, even falling flat on her ass as it walks up to her.
    Result: She promptly gets eaten.
Even Worse: The whole reason Nima wanted the can in the first place was to sell it for money. If she doesn't grab the can, then not only does she survive, but the boat they get in ends up containing the payment she was to receive for the embryos.
