The Prince is an Animated Sitcom created by Gary Janetti for the streaming service HBO Max and serves as a "funny" satire for The British Royal Family. As it focuses on Prince George – youngest heir to the British throne – a Spoiled Brat who makes life hell for his family, as well as Buckingham Palace’s residents and staff. But given his family's just miserable dicks, it makes some sort of sense.

Originally slated for a late Spring 2021 date, HBO Max delayed the show to July 29, 2021 due to Prince Philip's death in April 2021. And in February 2022, HBO Max cancelled the series after one season.

It is one of the few 20th Television Animation shows not on Hulu or Fox.

This show provides examples of:

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Platonic example, George heaps scorn and abuse on Owen, but he does care for him (even though he doesn't seem to want to admit it). For his part, Owen does show annoyance at times, but all through his day off he takes George's incessant calls because he seems to like the boy's company, and seems to realize both of them need the companionship (Owen being a widower facing an empty home, and George suffering from parental neglect).
  • Cliffhanger: Season 1 ended with Kevin (who was one of the creatures under Buckingham Palace) preparing to kill off the Royal family with poisoned Flummery tarts. However, the show got cancelled after that, so we won't know if he was successful or not.
  • Content Warnings: Each episode opens with a "royal decree" urging viewers to take the show's depiction of the royal family with a grain of salt. This was probably due to the numerous controversies and incidents regarding the family in the year-and-a-half leading up to the show's premiere.
"Like, this isn't really the Royal Family. It's like, a parody, or whatever. And certain recent events will not be reflected in this programme because, again, not real. So chill. That's an order."
  • Creator's Culture Carryover: Despite the show explicitly taking place in the UK (most of the show takes place in Buckingham Palace and George's school), pop culture references are almost solely based on American culture (and any of the few British pop culture references are those also extremely mainstream in America). All celebrity cameos are from Americans, and the Royal Family is shown to heavily enjoy American music and entertainment. Everyone in the cast (from the elderly Queen and Prince Philip all the way down to the palace staff) are shown to enjoy and be very knowledgeable about American things they are very unlikely to have even heard of, let alone be big fans of, such as The Bachelor, The Big Bang Theory, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Britney Spears music, American fashionistas, HGTV, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Kelly Ripa, Channing Tatum, and Demi Lovato. A rather egregious example of this is an episode called "Vacation" (and the characters say that word), even though people in the UK would call it a "holiday".
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Queen Elizabeth oscillates between indifferently cruel, rude and aggressive.
  • Idle Rich: All of the royals, with the exception of Meghan and Harry who try to find work in Los Angeles. A lot of comedy around Harry revolves around what happens when a skill-less royal who has never held a job tries to work, first following his dream of being a masseur and later a barista. As for the rest of the family, a huge majority of scenes show them eating a meal or having tea time. The very few royal duties they DO perform are offscreen.
  • Long-Lived: Prince Phillip, who is so old he can barely speak, open his mouth, or even feed himself.
  • Mature Work, Child Protagonists: The series is a satire of the British Royal Family told from the point of view of Prince George, who was eight years old at the time of its debut. It includes a lot of profanity, sexual references and crass jokes, among other child-unfriendly content.
  • The Morlocks: Parodied with the chefs underneath Buckingham who perfected the recipe for Flummery Tarts. Over decades they've de-evolved into nearly blind creatures. The tarts are reportedly also only so-so.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: American Gary Janetti puts on a British accent when voicing Prince George. He still uses American pronunciations for many words.
  • Random Events Plot: The show tends to juggle many unrelated plot threads with some being unceremoniously dropped and replaced with others.
  • Royal Brat: Prince George stands out, being a jerk to even his "friends".
  • Spy Speak: Princess Charlotte and one of her contacts engage in sign/countersign.
  • Ventriloquism: Douglas speaks as Prince Philip when he forgets to recharge him. It's only barely hidden, but Queen Elizabeth doesn't notice.
