MeteoHeroes is an Italian animated series created by Mondo TV. It premiered on April 22, 2020 on Cartoonito in Italy.
The series revolves around a Multinational Team of six kid heroes, working in tandem to fight climate change. They are:
- Giorgio Latini / Thermo - Italian, controls the temperature.
- Andrew Khumalo / Ventum - South African, controls the wind.
- Adam Bolt / Fulmen - Australian, controls lightning and thunder.
- Su Pa Sin / Nix - Chinese, controls snow.
- Patty Storm / Pluvia - American, controls rain and hail.
- Angelita Perez / Nubess - Argentinian, controls clouds.
Kenn Viselman licensed the show for North America, and is the executive producer of its Americanized version. PBS aired a special based on the show on April 22, 2022, but only on a select few stations like KVIE. The show has its own website here.
MeteoHeroes provides examples of:
- Allergic to Evil: Thermo always starts sneezing whenever the main villains are close.
- And Knowing Is Half the Battle: At the end of every episode, Peeguu and Tempus discuss the moral of the episode.
- An Ice Person:
- Nix evokes snow and snow storms.
- Thermo is able to control the temperature and can shoot freezing beams.
- Anime Hair: Fulmen has spiky hair made from pure energy.
- As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Su Pa Sin is not a possible name in Mandarin. It's likely that she's supposed to be named Xuě, which means snow, her element, but that sounds a lot like "shit", so it probably couldn't fly on children's television.
- Blow You Away: Nubess and Ventum both have aerokinesis, but Nubess controls specifically clouds while Ventum just uses wind.
- Elemental Hair Composition: Fulmen's hair is pure electricity.
- Gender-Equal Ensemble: There are three girls and three boys.
- Green Aesop: The series teaches ecology and respect for nature.
- Interchangeable Asian Cultures: Nix uses shurikens. That's a Japanese weapon, and Nix is Chinese.
- Making a Splash: Pluvia counts, as she controls rain, which is obviously water.
- Meaningful Name:
- Pluvia's name is from the Latin word for rain.
- Thermo comes from the prefix 'thermo', meaning temperature.
- Ventum's name is derived from the Italian word for wind, il vento.
- Nubess' name comes from 'nube', 'cloud' in Italian Spanish.
- Fulmen's name comes form the Italian word for lightning, fulmine.
- Multinational Team: The six main characters come from every continent in the world (except Antarctica, though Peeguu may be the Antarctic hero).
- Multi-Part Episode: Season 1 has four; "Blackout", "Green Waves", "The Great Flood", and "How It All Began".
- Named After Somebody Famous: The team's mentor, professor Margherita Rita, is named after Margherita Hack and Rita Levi Montalcini, two of the most known Italian female scientists.
- Shock and Awe: Fulmen controls lightning, and by extension, thunder.
- Snowlem: Nix can summon a giant snowman called Giant Giga to help her.
- Super-Speed: Fulmen can run super fast.
- Tuckerization: Su Pa Sin is named after one of the show's main producers, Supasin Jitman.
- Weather Manipulation: All six heroes have powers relating to different types of weather, such as rain, snow, wind, and temperature.
- Wind Is Green: Ventum, the hero with wind-controlling superpowers, has a prominently green color scheme.
