Go To

“Bellboy Duck” is a 1942 Classic Disney Short directed by Jack King, starring Donald Duck.

Donald is a bellboy at a fancy hotel. As the cartoon begins, he is being reprimanded by the hotel manager for losing his temper at the guests, and is warned that if it happens again, he'll be fired. Unfortunately, Donald is tested by the son of one of the guests (played by Pete), who decides he's the perfect target for his pranks.

This cartoon contains examples of:

  • Banana Peel: Pete Junior eats a banana and tosses its peel before Donald, causing him to slip as he struggles to carry a few heavy suitcases.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Donald loses his job, but gets even with Pete Junior.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Pete Junior, who takes advantage of Donald by tormenting for no reason.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Pete Junior has an easy time picking on Donald, who is even bigger, being an adult. This little boy learns his lesson the hard way when he pushes Donald too far.
  • Comedic Spanking: Donald bestows one on Pete Junior in retaliation for his abuse.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After enduring so much of Pete Junior’s abuse, Donald finally snaps and bestows the Bratty Half-Pint with a Comedic Spanking.
  • Enfant Terrible: The level of abuse Pete Junior puts Donald through is just plain ridiculous. Even his father Pete, while still rebuking Donald for messing up at one point, is much nicer than him by comparison.
  • Elevator Gag: When Donald starts the elevator, the force of the lift is such that Pete and Pete Junior have their pants yanked down, then pulled back up when it stops. Pete Junior thinks the elevator is a great chance for some pranks. First he closes the door on Donald's uniform, which is yanked out. Then when Donald is back inside he makes it go up and down really fast, until Donald begs for mercy.
  • Evil Laugh: Donald laughs with a rather menacing look as he spanks Pete Junior at the end.
  • The Faceless: The hotel manager can only be seen by his hands and arms. Even his body remains hidden from the screen.
  • For the Evulz: Pete Junior torments Donald just for the fun of it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Pete Junior receives the Comedic Spanking he has coming to him for harassing Donald.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Donald tries to keep his cool even when Pete Junior abuses him. When the Bratty Half-Pint pushes him too far, Donald loses his temper and turns the table on him, even though it costs him his job.
  • Unsatisfiable Customer: Pete Junior takes advantage of Donald by tormenting him for no reason.
  • Vocal Dissonance: For a little boy, Pete Junior sounds like a forty-year-old smoker.
  • Wham Line: At the end when Donald is finally turning the table on Pete Junior:
    Donald: Am I fired?
    Hotel Manager: Yes! You're FIRED!
Donald: That's all I wanted to know.
  • Worth It: Donald doesn't seem to mind losing his job if it means physically punishing Pete Junior for his abuse.
