"Making comics to keep me sane and you entertained."

Medic Pics is a Slice Of Life Web Comic drawn by a medical student living in the UK about his time studying medicine and uni life in general.

While most of the comics feature the author addressing the audience or depict events directly, some have him split into two - his Student self and Artist self, as they bicker over what the two of them should do. Hilarity Ensues.

The first update was released soon after the author started his first year of university. The comic continued to be updated over the summer, and is currently ongoing into the author's second year.

This comic provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Anthropomorphic Personification: The embodiment of exams chases the author with an angry look in his eyes. While he's defeated a few weeks later, the two acknowledge that this is far from their final battle.

  • Art Evolution: Over time the comic includes more detailed backgrounds and shading on the characters in the foreground.

  • Art Shift: The comic contains a few.
    • One of the first episodes about the early hospital visit has the author portrayed in a pixel art style as opposed to the hand drawn 2D art.
    • The Beach Episode is quite literally drawn on the beach.
    • The Dream Sequence uses a different shading style to the regular cel shaded comics to highlight the difference from reality.

  • Author Avatar: The main character represents the author either talking about or depicting scenarios at university.

  • Batter Up!: The author (and his artist self) uses this on two occasions to to remove things they don't like - AI, and people who don't like the flashcard software, Anki.

  • Beach Episode: Chapter #32 provides one of these, quite literally. It's set on a beach, while being drawn on the beach's sand.

  • Black Bead Eyes: Every character sports these - except Exams, whose eyes are obscured in shadow.

  • Blood from the Mouth: The living embodiment of exams is left with one of these after his fight with the author.

  • Beat Panel: One is used when the author realises his friend Partap doesn't like studying the same way he does. The panel that follows shows him wielding a baseball bat, with Partap suspiciously absent.

  • Comical Angry Face: Several, such as Artist upon seeing a lecture about Artificial Intelligence.

  • Creepy Doll: The mannequin on the author's table looks especially creepy with fairy lights lighting it from behind.

  • Dream Sequence: The author has a dream about a bizarre hospital visit that never took place. The only wrong thing he notices when waking up was that his friend in the dream wasn't even a med student.

  • Funny Afro: The author has an afro and is the protagonist of a slice of life gag webcomic. It occasionally changes shape to reflect his mood, such as flopping with disappointment.

  • Identical Panel Gag: The Library Episode acts as one of these, as the author's mind wanders and he realises something horrible.

  • Idiot Hair: The author has a noticeable spike on top on his afro. His Student and Artist split personalities also do, in the shape of an 'S' and an 'A' respectively.

  • Insistent Terminology: The author insists on calling the inside of the elbow the antecubital fossa - before he's even started medical school.

  • Library Episode: Chapter #29 takes place completely in the same library during exam season, with the author musing about body pillows instead of studying.

  • Martial Medic: The Author acts as one of these to fight off his exams.

  • Late for School: Having left his Student ID card at home, the author had to sprint to med school with the help of his running playlist.

  • Literal Split Personality: Several chapters split the author into his thoughts as an artist and his thoughts as a student, and their conflicting goals.

  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: When the author accidentally opens his flashcard app over the summer holidays, he's racked with these.

  • Say It with Hearts: One of these is used when the author finally returns to a clean kitchen, having been living in student accommodation.

  • Visible Sigh: The author gives one after completely exhausting his social battery (after a singular conversation in a library.)

  • Visible Silence: When Student calls Artist over to watch a lecture, he's met with one of these.

  • Wall of Text: A couple are used in the series:
    • One is given as soon as the author is given a chance to ramble about Lemon Demon's song, Spiral of Ants.
    • A wall of screaming is given alongside the introduction to his Exams.

  • We Will Meet Again: Exams taunts the author with this, before he replies that he knew full well they'd fight again and again.
