Burning Down the House is yet another sequel fan comic of Homestuck, first released on August 8th, 2021 by Victoria Lacroix, Vriska Serket kinnie. It is a direct continuation of the original work, immediately following from the conclusion of Act 7 and starring the same cast of characters.

It can be read here.

Burning Down the House provides examples of:

  • All Deserts Have Cacti: The deserts of Earth C still have their signature cacti. Hoo boy, does it have cacti.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: Borrowing from the original comic, the POV regularly bounces from character to character. Even the character select screens are here!
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: Kanaya uses one of these while she's flirting with Rose.
  • The Cameo: Were you able to spot Cactus Boy? Well, maybe you should look harder.
  • Character Development: Karkat interrogating his relationship with authorities throughout his life, as well as his aspirations for the future.
  • Crack in the Sky: What's that ominous black hole all about?
  • Defeat Means Friendship: It's probably safe to say that it isn't a true friendship per se, but Jack Noir is now working as Karkat's assistant at the mayor's office.
  • Four Lines, All Waiting: Having inherited a massive cast, this becomes a necessity. The comic literally starts with a character select screen for four different plot threads.
  • Genre Savvy: In keeping with their normal characterization, just about everyone has some degree of genre savviness.
  • GIS Syndrome: Real world photographs are integrated into the backgrounds of some of the art, to impressive effect.
  • Item Crafting: Roxy creates the most disgusting pizza of all time using Sburb's crafting mechanics. Traditional cooking proves a better option.
  • Jet Pack: Terezi is seen using her rocket wings during the opening animation.
  • Kitsch Collection: Rose's stash of rocks that she accumulated while travelling the desert. It could be compared to a dragon building a hoard, but that would be SILLY.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Well, this troper thought Jake's gun jokes were funny, Jade.
  • Leitmotif: The song playing as Jack Noir is revealed to be Karkat's assistant indicates who it is before his face his ever shown.
  • Letters 2 Numbers: It goes without saying that many of the trolls do this as part of their writing quirks, but even the author of the comic has been known to obfusc8 her speech in this way.
  • Loose Canon: The bonus donator comics take place in an extracanonical space known as content limbo.
  • Lovable Lizard: Pet that snake!
  • No Bio Chemical Barriers: The mother grub, despite being described as very finnicky with its environment and belonging to a planet whose sun was deadly to its inhabitants, is capable of survival in an Earth-C desert.
  • Official Couple: From the very start, Roxy+Calliope, Dave+Karkat, and Rose+Kanaya are expressly couples.
  • Painting the Medium: Narrativesplosion!
  • Piggyback Cute: Rose carrying Kanaya while flying in the introductory flash! Also Dave carrying Karkat... sort of.
  • Portmanteau: There are an endless amount of these inherited from the original comic, and new ones are made to continue that proud tradition.
  • Rainbow Speak: As you would expect, dialogue is colored based on the speaker, and particular important words or phrases are given their own special treatments.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Despite the fact that many of the characters have this trait, they still have to worry about emotional damage.
  • Running Gag: This is a Homestuck fan comic. Expect your Bluhs and your THIS IS STUPIDs, among many, many others.
  • Scenery Porn: The opening animation has some absolutely gorgeous backgrounds.
  • Second-Person Narration: Burning Down the House stays true to being narrated in this format.
  • Seinfeldian Conversation: Expect plenty of these as dialogue tends to wind it's way down through some unusual avenues.
  • Self-Imposed Exile: Jake choosing to stay on Hellmurder Island while he figures some things out.
  • Shout-Out: Sand really is coarse and rough, and it really does get everywhere.
    • Also... busting makes me feel good.
  • Signature Laugh: Jane retains her signature "hoo hoo hoo."
  • The Silent Bob: The mayor once again plays this role.
  • Unsound Effect: "Pizza-ify!"
  • Urban Ruins: The abandoned cityscapes that litter Earth C qualify as this.
