Meet Me In St. Louis, by Judy Garland, used in the preview video

Gateway is an Actual Play roleplaying series hosted by The Unexpectables' GM MontyGlu and Connor "Distortion Devil" McKinley. There is absolutely no connection between it and the Heechee Saga (or any of the Gateway games based on it).

The campaign is based on the Fallout series using the Powered by the Apocalypse system, and set in a post-apocalyptic Missouri. Four wastelanders are caught by slavers just outside of St. Louis, and must both escape their captors and try to survive the unusual and dangerous Missouri wasteland, while also trying to survive their own..."quirks".

Episodes originally aired on a bi-weekly schedule, alternating with The Prince Division, but turned into a weekly series when Prince Division concluded. The series is currently ongoing, with past episodes archived on the official Unexpectables Youtube channel.

The main cast features:

Gateway contains examples of:

  • Artificial Human: Cynthia is pretty obviously a Gen-2 synth, only aided in her deception by the fact that they would only be known to people in the Commonwealth Wasteland, which she is now hundreds of miles away from.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: Cynthia is an older variant of Synth, and as such when she disrobes she has no defining features.
  • Brain Uploading: Synthia best describes herself as having "two" births. One where she was human, and one where she was a synth, though it's unclear whether or not this is just an implanted memory.
  • Closet Geek: Towards the end of Episode 4, it's revealed that "Apex" is the author and illustrator of his own comic book.
  • First-Episode Spoiler: It's rather hard to talk about Cynthia without mentioning her Artificial Human traits, but given how rare Synths are in the setting, especially out in the Missouri wastes, it's a dramatic reveal to the rest of the cast.
  • Pinball Projectile: Louise has incredible shooting skill, able to ricochet bullets off of surfaces.
  • Punny Name: Cynthia, who is now a Synth.
  • Token Good Teammate: Alvin's unflinching politeness and moral character makes him stand out hard against the rest of the party, who are clearly... off.
  • Wild Man: Apex is as close to a wild human as you could possibly get, having only vague ideas of civilization, eating like an animal, and speaking in terse sentences. This later turns out to be an act.
