The Play AU contains examples of…
- Deadpan Snarker: Izuru, completely apathetic and grey. Likes to be sarcastic to show off the mild personality and ingenuity that he has.
- It's All About Me: Miu has a very inflated ego due to her social media fame and being an influencer. Believes herself to be the “best person on earth} and that everything should “be about her all the time”. She is highly manipulative on-top of this due to her status and ability to make anyone and everyone despise a certain internet user or internet personality.
- The Quiet One: Kiibo, rarely talks due to the hinted online abuse Miu put them through after their breakup. Some even go as far as to believe that Kiibo is mute and isn’t just someone who prefers not to talk unless spoken yo.
- God Is Flawed: Gundham, sees himself as some form of “supreme dark lord”, even though he’s just a regular human with A LOT OF FLAWS.
- Hates Being Touched: Korekiyo, despises being touched due to his sisters sexual and mental abuse towards him. He will generally only allow Angie to touch him.
- In Love with Love: Kyoko, loves the concept of love to the point of looking in the wrong and just generally strange places. This isn’t just with romantic love but with platonic love also.
- Secretly Dying: Nekomaru, has an incurable heart condition but hasn’t told anyone yet. He only has 8 Weeks (two months) left to live at the start of the story.
- Bad Liar: Kokichi, unlike in canon danganronpa, Kokichi can’t lie at all when out of character. Though he often attempts lies, they aren’t exactly good or great ones. All being relatively terrible.
- Can't Take Criticism: Monaca, pretends to not understand that her wrongdoings are wrong and will be very mad if told that they are, often either throwing a tantrum or kicking and screaming to try and get her way.
- Expelled from Every Other School: Taka loves to break rules any chance he gets when off-stage or just generally out of character. He’s been expelled from multiple schools prior to Hopes Peak due to this.
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Gonta, is constantly pure-minded. He doesn’t appear to know much about more sensitive topics apart from suicide. He’s general not good with certain things due to his innocence. Often goes with everything either Kokichi or Ryoma says.
- Sadistic Teacher: Jin, doesn’t listen to his students and often times devalues them. He also comes across as predatory in nature towards Nagisa and Kotoko, making Kotoko perform fanservice scenes in the UDG play despite being 14. He also suspends students for standing up for themselves or others (such as Mikan and Nagisa).
- Mean Character, Nice Actor: A lot of the cast. Some notable examples are Kokichi, Junko, Mukuro, and Byakuya. However…
- Nice Character, Mean Actor: While Miu in the play is not “super nice” by any means, her character doesn’t even begin to betray The Bully she really is.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Kokichi’s whole reason for joining the play is so that he won’t feel so alone.
