Inside each of us lives a beautiful and majestic dragon. Discover which dragon you are, other than Rugarth. Rugarth is already taken.

An online quiz published on ClickHole in 2016.

Dragons. These magnificent beasts have held countless roles throughout legend, from friends to foes to forces of nature. And by taking this quiz, you — yes, you, dear reader — can find out which dragon matches your inner soul. Are you the mighty Kelvorax? The kindly Illystria? The terrifying Tyndallion? Or the wise Rugarth?

Hopefully not that last one. Some people wouldn't be very happy about that.

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Tyndallion's battle cry addresses "wind and wave".
  • Alliterative Name: The Magma Mountains, the Riddle of Rugarth, and the Trumpet of Tsunamis.
  • Ancient Artifact: The Halcyon Sword, a potential threat to Tyndallion that was thought lost to the seas millennia ago.
  • Ancient Keeper: Rugarth resides in a library in an old abandoned keep, imparting ancient knowledge to those who would come to seek it and can prove themselves worthy.
  • Badass Boast: Kelvorax's battle cry: "All who oppose me shall burn!"
  • Battle Cry: The last question is "Which mighty battle cry does your dragon roar as it springs into battle?", with each dragon in the answers having their own phrase.
  • Blow You Away:
    • Tyndallion has power over storms, directing the winds to aid or wreck ships.
    • The name of Rugarth's Breath Weapon, "Rugarth's Wind", suggests some sort of wind-based power.
  • Bookworm: Rugarth lives in a library, "whiling away the centuries by reading his beloved books".
  • Breath Weapon: The dragons all shoot different elements from their mouths.
    • Kelvorax shoots fire.
    • Illystria shoots ball lightning.
    • Tyndallion shoots water geysers.
    • Rugarth shoots "Rugarth's Wind".
  • Color-Coded Characters: Each dragon is a different color. They also tend to be associated with things in their color.
    • Kelvorax is red, breathes fire, and lives in the Magma Mountains.
    • Illystria is white, associated with ice, lives in an alabaster tower, and breathes lightning.
    • Tyndallion is blue, lives in the ocean, and has water powers.
    • Rugarth is green.
  • Color-Coded Elements: Overlapping with Color-Coded Characters; different elements are associated with the dragons, matching their scale colors: fire and lava (red) for Kelvorax, ice and lightning (white) for Illystria, the oceans (blue) for Tyndallion, and forests (green) for Rugarth.
  • Delightful Dragon: Illystria is a dragon who resides within a royal castle as a welcome guest, seeks friendship between dragonkind and humanity, stands up against evil with The Power of Friendship, and is friends not only with Princess Celeste, but all the knights of the Crystal Guard.
You are a benevolent wyrm who seeks friendship between dragonkind and humanity[…]. Although you dislike violence, you never hesitate to fly to the aid of your friends.
  • Dragon Hoard: The dragon Kelvorax's most prized possession — a heaping pile of gold.
  • Dragon Rider: Princess Celeste rides on the back of her dragon friend Illystria, adventuring across the land.
  • Dragons Versus Knights: Question 6 asks how you, as a dragon, would respond to an errant knight intruding into your sanctum. Kelvorax and Tyndallion's answers assume or respond with hostility.
  • The Dreaded: Tyndallion is the "scourge of the oceans" whose name strikes fear in the hearts of seafarers.
Seafarers tremble at the mere mention of your name. When your winged shadow falls upon a ship, it spells certain doom, save for the select few that it amuses you to spare.
  • Elemental Dragon: Each dragon is associated with at least one element. While for Kelvorax and Tyndallion, these are also their Breath Weapons (or related to it), the other two have elements that don't appear to be connected to their powers.
    • Ice and crystal for Illystria, who is from the frozen Northlands, was injured by a Frost Walrus, is compared in color to crystal, and lives in a land with crystal associations. However, she breathes ball lightning.
    • Deep, mysterious forests for the secluded, scholarly Rugarth, whose green scales are compared in color to "an eldritch forest" and "ancient elderoak trees". He breathes wind instead.
  • Elemental Personalities:
    • Fire-breathing Kelvorax is described as having a fiery temper and an "unquenchable ego".
    • Tyndallion, the oceanic dragon, is as mercurial and potentially destructive as the winds and waves themselves.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: You can find out which dragon matches you, but the quiz writer severely discourages you from getting Rugarth, whom they are supposedly already matched with.
  • Fire Is Red: Kelvorax is a fire-themed dragon with red scales to match.
  • Friendship Trinket: Princess Celeste once used a silk scarf to bind Illystria's wing after it had been injured. For this reason, this scarf is Illystria's most treasured possession.
  • Hermit Guru: Rugarth is reclusive, living in an abandoned keep far from other dragons, and possesses much ancient knowledge and wisdom.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The dragon Illystria is good friends with the non-dragon Princess Celeste.
  • It Amused Me: Tyndallion wreaks havoc upon ships, but occasionally spares some select few out of amusement.
  • Light Is Good: Illystria is a peaceful, crystal-white dragon.
  • Making a Splash: Tyndallion breathes out water geysers.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Kelvorax is a fearsome, fire-breathing dragon.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: The dragons come in different colors and with great variance in their powers, domains, and temperaments. Their habitats range from fiery to icy to oceanic; their breath weapons include fire, water, and lightning; and they can be terrors, friendly, or reclusive scholars. The terms "dragon" and "wyrm" also seem to be used interchangeably.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Tyndallion is said to have leveled harbor towns with a thought and sunk vast armadas with a gesture.
  • Playing with Fire: Kelvorax has the classic dragon's fire breath.
  • The Power of Friendship: Illystria's battle cry expresses belief in the power of friendship to triumph over evil.
"Evil shall never prevail over friendship!"
  • Red Is Violent: Kelvorax has red scales and a fiery temper to match.
  • Riddle Me This: Rugarth challenges those who would seek knowledge from him to first answer a riddle.
  • Running Gag:
    • The quiz writer's continual insistence that you not be Rugarth.
    • It's always obvious which answers are the "wrong" one, and they only keep getting more obvious as you progress through the quiz.
  • Shock and Awe: Illystria breathes lightning.
  • Water Is Blue: Tyndallion is an ocean-dwelling dragon with blue scales to match.
  • Wild Card: Tyndallion both aids and wrecks ships as the mood strikes, and is known to occasionally spare people out of amusement.
Sailors pray for my good favor, but I am a fickle wyrm. The storm winds aid or scuttle ships to match my mercurial moods.
  • Work Info Title: As the title informs you, you can find out which dragon matches you, but the quiz writer has already claimed Rugarth.
