Wordgirl: REWIRED is an animatic-style Web Animation and fanmade continuation to WordGirl. Five years have passed since the show has ended, but the titular character is still a Flying Brick who uses her powers of literacy to fight kooky villains. The series is directed by SnickerDoodlez and Skwangly Fingers, with a team of fans working to produce the episodes. The first episode was uploaded December 23, 2023 and can be watched here.
Wordgirl: REWIRED contains examples of:
- Acceptable Breaks from Canon: Doctor Two-Brains doesn't have many mouse-like features in the original show, but here, he sports mouse ears and a tail.
- Arc Words: Just like the original show, each episode includes two featured words.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Robots like Mousezilla 2.0. fit the bill.
- Blatant Lies: Nooo, Tobey doesn't have a crush on WordGirl. That'd be ridiculous!
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Most often done by the Narrator, but other characters do it from time to time as well.
- By the Power of Grayskull!: "Worrrrrrd Up!"
- Cartoon Cheese: Makes sense, considering Doctor Two-Brains' addiction to it. It makes an appearance as early as episode 1 ("Mousezilla 2.0."), both as an uncolored wedge as well as the yellow-y orange, hole-filled title on the title card.
- Continuity Nod: Doctor Two-Brains' references several of the series' villains in "Mousezlilla 2.0." when talking to Tobey, letting us know that they're still around.
- Crush Blush: Despite his attempts to claim otherwise, this makes it pretty clear Tobey isn't as over WordGirl as he'd like everyone to think.
- Episode Title Card: Just like the original show, Wordgirl: REWIRED has title cards for its episodes. You can check them out here.
- Evil Laugh: With so many mad scientists and supervillains (and mad scientist supervillains), it makes sense.
- Flash Forward Fic: The story takes place 5 years after the finale of the show, "Rhyme and Reason, Part 2."
- Four-Fingered Hands: Most of the artists draw the characters that way.
- Free-Range Children: Zigzagged with Tobey and his mother. Mrs. McCallister at least sets some rules and restrictions on Tobey, and when he disregards them (which he often does), he's punished for it.
- Hand Rubbing: Doctor Two-Brains has this covered.
- I Do Not Own: "We are not at all associated with the show or its owners, and as such the project is completely unpaid and non-monetized." [1]
- Idiosyncrazy: The villains from the original show fell into this category, so it makes sense that it's here too. It's present as soon as episode 1, courtesy of Doctor Two-Brains.
- Interactive Narrator: The Narrator talks with the characters. Usually WordGirl and Captain Huggyface.
- Intergenerational Friendship
- Captain Huggyface and WordGirl, considering Huggy was a pilot (and presumably an adult) when he crash landed on Earth with baby WordGirl.
- Doctor Two-Brains and Tobey, although Tobey may not see their relationship that way.
- WordGirl and Steven Boxleitner before he turned into Doctor Two-Brains.
- Interspecies Romance: WordGirl is a Lexiconian, so no matter who you ship her with in the cast, it falls under this.
- Jekyll & Hyde: Within Doctor Two-Brains, Professor Steven Boxleitner is the Jekyll to Squeaky's Hyde.
- Leitmotif: The same ones from the original show, actually.
- Most Fanfic Writers Are Fans: The creative team is made up of WordGirl fans.
- Not Allowed to Grow Up: Subverted. The entire premise of the fan reboot is that five years have passed, and the children characters in particular have obviously aged to teens.
- Original Flavour: From title cards to background music, it does its best to emulate the original show where it can.
- Secret Identity: Becky keeps her identity as WordGirl a secret, even from her family. Though she hasn't done the best job, considering Scoops and Violet know (following the events of the original show).
- Bob also keeps his identity as Captain Huggyface a secret.
- Series Fic: While only one episode is currently released, the plan is for more to be released that continue the story.
- One of the directors, SnickerDoodlez, sometimes releases content relating to the series, e.g. the characters as vines.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: In "Mousezilla 2.0.", Tobey insists he doesn't have feelings for WordGirl anymore, but no one believes him.
- Show Within a Show: The reboot of Pretty Princess and Magic Pony Power Hour.
- Status Quo Is God: Averted. Five years have passed since the original show's finale, and the status quo has changed.
- Villain Team-Up: Doctor Two-Brains and Tobey in "Mousezilla 2.0." The team-up falls apart, just like in "Mousezilla" from the original show.
- We Used to Be Friends: WordGirl and Steven Boxleitner were friends before the Freak Lab Accident that turned him into Doctor Two-Brains.
- Where the Hell is Springfield?: Where is Fair City? We don't know.
