Dandelion - The World Begins With You is the fiftieth short of the second annual 48 Hour OSC Film Festival. It was created by Nic, Oska, Raine and Urienote and the individual film was released on Raine's YouTube channel.
The short is known to have won second place in the film festival, collecting a total of US$259 in donations out of the US$904 raised, and being the first ever Magical Girl-based Object Show.
Dandelion and her tight-knit gang seem like typical, everyday high-schoolers with a shared love for gardening but when trouble arrives, they quickly transform into The Perennials. A group of magical plants who are the frontline defenders of nature, destined to take down those who harmed it. But it won't be easy as they would have to face formidable foes such as acid rain, global warming and politicians.
Flowerpot is the latest edition to the team and though still uncertain about her role, wants to prove what it takes to be a Perennial. Excellent timing given the group's relaxing day of building the school's greenhouse takes a sharp turn with the arrival of a smog beast and it's up to Perranials to stop it.
The short was later planned to be expanded into a full web-animated series.
Tuned into the short which can be viewed here as well as its unfiltered render.
The short contains the following tropes:
- Anthropomorphic Food: Gala is a walking, talking red gala apple.
- Color-Coded Characters: The Perennials each have a signature colour that appeared prominently on their bows, boots and bodies:
- Dandy - Pink
- Amanita - Red
- Sunny - Yellow (Also black)
- Gala - Blue
- Flowerpot - Green
- Eyeless Face: Dandy has a mouth with a Cute Little Fang as their only facial feature.
- Formula with a Twist: Its unique take on the Object Show genre is that it's neither a competition nor a slice-of-life but a Green Aesop Magical Girl cartoon.
- Monochromatic Eyes: Dandy and Amanita both have white eyes due to their black-colored scheme and shadowed face respectively making Black Bead Eyes harder to see.
- Mushroom Man: Amanita, like her name suggests, is an anthropomorphic fungus.
- Power Makes Your Hair Grow: A non-human, non-hair variation where the transformed Perennials would grow extra leaves on their heads and as tails and in Amanita's case, secondary mushrooms on her sides.
- Retraux: The short has a VHS filter to emulate the style of retro 90s Magical Girl anime.
